I guess the show needs it's own thread. The plan is that Oliver Callen, Brendan Courtney and couple of other tba hosts will do it will into the winter. It very much looks like the vacancy is left open for Tubs to return.

Whatever Gaybo was getting was well deserved as he was a star in a way only Tubridy could dream of.
He presented the LLS when almost everyone watched it. He produced the LLS towards the end. I forget how long his radio show was but would imagine he had a huge listnership. He presented Rose of Tralee and Housewife of the Year and probably plenty more besides. All had huge viewing numbers.
While I agree on Byrne’s talent he was overpaid and the start of the excess.

Have to agree with Francis, himself and Mike Murphy kicked it all off back in the days of Fred O'Donovan RTE Chairman who was quite close to a certain CJH.
This was when Gaybo was considering moving to Disney in the States, the bank was 'broke' to keep him here.
Its said he went to Mike Murphy and apparently intimated that as the NO.2 in the station, he should get relativity to gaybo's wedge, and apparently he did!

Contractors do not like working bank holidays. Even when they are a stand in presenter. Which infuriates me.
There have been instances in the past where Callan was standing in for Tubs. Callan was standing in during a bank holiday. So a second replacement would have to be found to cover Callan on the bank holiday. Makes no sense.
it makes no financial sense RTE having to rely on contractors to stand in for presenters.
there are a load of idle permanent staffers who could do the job!!

He might have been on the show, I have some recollection of a post here saying he was being interviewed after the announcement. I didn't hear it myself so can't say for certain.

Courtney's contract as Callan's cover seems to have been nailed down. According to the Mirror, a source at RTE has revealed that " Brendan's holiday cover contract has been renewed for another two years. When he does cover, he earns €400 per shift."
What a joke. Why should this guy be getting a contract when the place is full of staffers working three days a week on big salaries?

Perhaps because the staffers aren't capable of asking the important questions such as, "Who's your favourite supermodel?"
It's almost as if the "stand-in" contract is a consolation for him not getting the gig. Has done well to mooch his way in on the radio side in the last couple of years. A tasty €2,000 for him every time Callan takes a week off.

On Ballsy’s show on Sun 28 RTE situation was discussed .
Not once was there any mention, not even a hint of reining in presenter wedges.
