He died earlier from a heart attack, very curious guy whatever you think of him. If he didn’t kill Sophie Toscan du Plantier he certainly didn’t help himself by his attention seeking behaviour.
You'd want to have advanced dementia if you couldn't provide an alibi for who you were with or remember where you were the morning after a local murder in a remote area, that made international headlines. Headlines which you or your partner were assisting to create.
It's not like it would slip your mind like or wouldn't crop up in discussion over the kitchen table.
She corrected it when she was told that Ian was spotted at Kealfada. He corrected it once he discovered Jules had told the truth.
Its a minor trivial point. If you were innocent you would not be thinking in terms of alibi. Just the broad details of the night.
A guilty person would have the details down pat in case they were ever questioned. Wouldnt even occur to someone innocent unconnected to the murder or discovery. Why would it?
He often got up during the night. As far as she knew he was still in the property / annex studio. He wasnt gone in the sense of gone to another address.
Where the forgetting whether he got up theory falls down is
They both initially said he didn't leave the bed
Then they both remembered that he did leave the bed
And of course the night that was in it before the murder memorable
noone is saying you wouldn’t remember in general what you did- considering it was a small village, you’d absolutely look back on the previous evening in your mind in case there was something that stood out that could help the investigation, considering you’re part of that community. But would getting out of bed to write an article be remembered a month later, especially as this is something you did regularly? Maybe.
I’ll give you one thing though - I reckon most members of that village who were adults at least and who were not involved in the murder have a reasonably clear recollection of what they did and where they were in the day preceding the murder - because as soon as they heard about the murder they would have gone back over their previous day in their minds to see if they could recollect anything.
Bailey and Thomas naturally would more than likely have also done that - but if innocent, would they clearly remember their sleeping habits that evening in the level of detail that’s now become so significant, and weeks after the event? Quite possibly not.
perhaps she (mairead farrell) or the man in the car was the killer .. who knows if they were there ...
Exactly. And a guilty person would have theit details rehearsed in their mind in case they had to relate it back under questioning.
Sleeping habits? He left her for half the night. Posters here are saying it as if he went to the jacks ffs haha. 1st statement she provides an Alibi. 2nd statement she does not. Sketchy as balls .
It was a good job he had the presence of mind to set up the article story on the morning after coming home from murdering his neighbour.
yea cos he couldn’t have prepared at that any stage. Hahahahah
Undoubtedly they would.
Bring that to a jury so and see how you get on
It’s just one part of the case. Ah for the 100th time this is a message board , it’s not a jury. I haven’t seen one person ever claim he should have been convicted in an Irish court with the evidence they had.
He had more than enough time to write and kill that night.
He was yes.
You’re some sort of “expert” then I take it - considering you’ve badgered every second poster including me, why don’t you give us your great theory on what happened and who done it- or maybe we’re not worthy
I claim it.
Mistrial- I want a recount
Very hard to get a conviction in Irish court for murder with just circumstantial evidence. Be interested to hear why you think he should be have been convicted?
What nonsense.
The murder of Sophie TdP was a huge news story at the time. Her body was found on the morning of Monday December 23rd. It was just two days before Christmas. It sent immediate shock waves around West Cork.
he did that often - it wasn’t unusual
So what. Unless you were involved in the discovery of the body or encountered her that night you wouldnt be accounting for your whereabouts to the nth degree. You would remember well we were at home, or came home for the pub. You would remember likely how you hears the news. Innocent people dont go round accounting for their whereabouts.
If one was asleep or even typing away on a newspaper article at the time of the murder, if innocent why would you dwell on the details of what you did that night. The only people who might have more precise accountability of their movements are those who were away from their home entirely, maybe driving around or out walking - they would or should have a clear recollection of what they saw - if you were at home and nothing to hide you will likely forget certain aspects of that evening especially if drink was taken
Bailey was a string reporter on the scene the following day.
He did live there- not unusual that he was one of the first reporters present -
My point is, this was a major event in his life. It's things like that mark in our minds. I would be even thinking for example, what was I doing when this poor woman was being murdered.
Could be a new sport ? Run 3 miles kill someone then run back and write a prose on it. If you do it during the winter and leave no evidence you get extra points
More than enough time for a sedate walk.
Amateur.
You need to have killed several turkeys, cut down a christmas tree and had a session in the pub before hand too.
Sleeping is cheating.
Wasn’t 3 miles. Could have written the article at anytime beforehand.
