He died earlier from a heart attack, very curious guy whatever you think of him. If he didn’t kill Sophie Toscan du Plantier he certainly didn’t help himself by his attention seeking behaviour.
Turkey claws are very sharp and they do flap alot when you handle.
I think the Cold Case review team have long cleared Ian Bailey as a suspect, informally at least.
Does anyone have any theories why a drop of Sophie's blood was found on a stone 6 feet inside the field by the pumphouse?
This would be nearly 30 feet from where her body was found.
I don't think she walked through this field habitually coming and going from the house.
I’d hope there isn’t “political pressure” - that’s all we need now😀
Im for letting the DPP do their job but considering Bailey is now deceased and because of the amount of bullsh1t throughout this whole investigation, I think the family of Sophie, and indeed the Irish public , deserve some form official statement once the DPP review of the evidence is complete - but don’t hold your breath
What makes U say first para when the media are reporting opposite and obviously being briefed by gardai
I think it was a weak case to begin with.
I think he barely knew her. I don't think the thought crossed his mind to leave his writing studio to go up to her house on freezing cold night.
If you had brutally murdered a woman and were covered in scratches, would you go up to the murder scene the following afternoon speaking to police at the cordon?
I know murderers often ingratiate themselves in investigations but not if covered in scratches.
Also the guy was a sloppy, alcoholic and managed to leave no forensic evidence.
I just don't see it. Then he's the prime suspect and "admits it" to about 5 people.
No motive, no evidence, barely knows the victim.
That’s a fine opinion but why do you think they cleared Bailey as a suspect? Cos you have?
I think informally they have, not formally.
It's an open case so they can't officially clear him.
I'd imagine they're investigating every other lead and not wasting anymore time or resources on him.
I wonder will we ever hear. I suppose you could speculate that if it finishes up soon then they were just looking at Bailey.
what was baileys motive for murder?
its amazing that sophie was literally only in her house 2-3 days before she was murdered and had planned to return to france within another 2-3 days
how would bailey have known so much about her and her itinerary to have struck on that precise night..
someone who must have known her more closely (perhaps a near neighbour or lover) must have been involved
I don’t know what his motive for murder was? a failed sexual advance? That was one Garda theory. It’s a fact he was violent against a woman , it’s also testified he tried to make sexual advances towards his partners 18 year old daughter which indicates odd sexual behaviour I guess. People have confirmed that they were both in the village the day before. He could have of course seen her. so I’m not sure where your Itinerary piece comes in. Well you think they “ must” have been involved , I certainly don’t.
The only motive seems to be he went up there looking for romance or he went up to Alfie Lyons house for a party and encountered her.
As far as we know he barely knew of her existence.
It's possible he saw her around Schull in a shop in the days prior and that put the thought into his head to go up there.
I just think it's very weak. It's not even circumstantial, it's pure fantasy.
Indo on the 'lost' gate
'The gate had a number of bloodstains or smears on three of its bars. These were Mrs Toscan du Plantier’s blood.
Further tests were carried out on the gate for up to six months, and it was then retained for six years at the laboratory in Dublin.
It was later decided to dispose of the gate because of its large size and because it was deemed to be of no value to the murder investigation.
“In the various discovery processes when people were seeking material, a query was raised about the gate and it was stated in writing that the gate was no longer available,” said a senior source.
“That has now turned into a claim that the gate has been lost or stolen, which is not the case. It is being used as a stick with which to beat the force but the truth is very different.”
Asked for details as to how and when the gate was disposed of by, the Garda Press Office said: “An Garda Síochána does not comment on the specifics of any ongoing investigation. Queries in relation to Forensic Science Ireland should be directed towards FSI.”
An FSI spokesperson said: “We can confirm that FSI staff swabbed the gate and that the swabs were then assessed within FSI. The gate remained in the possession of the Garda Technical Bureau during this process.”..

Not according to this article - Bailey was expecting an imminent arrest - far from clearing Bailey they were

I ve read it a few places now so presumably this is from gardai
Yet posters are saying that Bailey has been informally cleared
Why ?
You’d wonder with the advances in DNA analysis etc do they now regret getting rid of the gate or indeed did they actually swab every last piece of it?
Saying that FSI are very good at what they do though - I’d respect their opinion.
For an open case, they still should've kept it.
It's one of the most important pieces of evidence along with the two blocks.
It's possible the gate was initially closed, so the killer might've touched it.
The journalist that wrote that is a fantasist.
There is no named source.
The only pertinent part is.
If a piece of evidence is destroyed or done with there will be a log to say that. This wasn't a closed case.
GSOCs investigation lasted 6 years, the gardaí couldn't find the gate or anything pertaining to suggest what happened to it.
But Senan has a "senior source" all of a sudden who knows exactly what happened to it.
He is an absolute spoofer that lad, I actually wouldn't be surprised if was posting on here.
No idea - if there are credible links to clearing Bailey out there by the guards let’s see them folks.
A Super asking a state solicitor to use his influence on the Minister of Justice to break the law?
No lad, that doesn't happen all the time.
I’d say he’d be very annoyed his paywalled article was posted lol
Was it the FSI or Gardai that got rid of it? Wasn’t it offered back first to Sophie’s family or is that a myth as well?
Id doubt FSI disposed of it as it was provided to them by the Gardai so someone in the Gardai at some point would have had to authorise that
I'm just saying if I was on the cold case team, I'd informally clear him and focus on other avenues of investigation.
He's been investigated to death (literally), nothing else will turn up.
It's a waste of time and resources.
Do you think the media are waging a coordinated smear campaign?
Or the gardai are doing same using the media
What's your reasoning for above ?
In which case it would be as flawed as the original investigation.
I'd hope it would be an objective review of all the case information with fresh eyes and open minds and will take as long as it takes to complete the task.
Ian Bailey's death, just like the previous death of other potential suspects over the last 27 years should not influence the cold case review. If it did, it would not be fit for purpose.
The media are just looking for clicks so will publish anything about Ian Bailey as he's trending at the moment and is one of the most infamous people in Ireland.
The Gardai have made no official statement.
I agree. I’d imagine it would have been a fresh look alright.
That would be grotesque, unbelievable, bizarre and unprecedented indeed.
... well maybe not unprecedented ....
... or unbelievable ....
That's dodging my question
Gardai clearly won't be making any statement ATM it's ridiculous to suggest otherwise
So your contention is the media are all running with the same story atm for clicks ?
The stories are false.and.bailey has in fact been informally cleared ?
An interesting development from a few weeks ago.
Whatever happened to the female witness in the case who was having ....shall we say an extra marital affair with a local garda at the time. She was out cavorting late that night / early morning and witnessed certain things that would prove vital to the case had it gone to court. It seems that crucial eyewitness evidence was kept hush hush to protect the garda's position as a pillar of the community, possibly his job and of course his marriage.
