Meatball's revenge
It's all fake and for show, but yes, astounding to witness
Yep. Just an act of petty spite from a toxic manchild who's having a tantrum because he didn't get his way. There's no principle here at all.
No - She hasn't a hope of winning the nomination and won't be his VP. He won't offer and even if he did I think she's smart enough to know it's suicide for any future aspirations she might have.
But by staying in the race , she can turn more and more Independent/Moderate Republican leaning voters against him by speaking directly to them about his behaviours. She also makes him spend money he doesn't have to spare, so he doesn't have it to spend in the general election.
For her , staying in the race has two goals.
Firstly she's hoping that the court cases and/or SCOTUS rulings damage him to the point that she starts winning - Unlikely but worth hanging around to see.
The second one is laying the ground-work for 2028 , she can position herself as the "voice of reason" , the one that "stood up to him" etc. etc. so that when it eventually all collapses around him she is well positioned to try to lead the post-Trump "new" GOP.
To be fair the bill was the most utterly ridiculous fawning attempt at sucking up to Trump and any normal sane person wouldn't support it.
I mean -
The “Freedom Fighters Fund” to “provide up to $5 million in financial support to Florida residents running for President who face legal, partisan, political attacks by the Department of Justice or State Attorneys.”
FFS...
He would never give her the VP he cant deal with a woman who is able to think and talk for herself, he only will ever choose a lickspittle devotee who does whatever they are told
Poor enough results for Trump last night. He was always going to win, but as an ex-President he should've been winning with 75-80% of the vote, rather than with 55%. That's an awful lot of the GOP/Independent base that voted against him.
Indeed i don't see Haley dropping out yet with that slim a percentage difference, i suppose it depends on how much money she has but id be surprised if she isnt getting more money today after such a close result.
I'm sure she'll press on, even if she manages to irritate him for the next few months it'll be worth it. Its pretty clear from both Iowa and NH that Trump isn't appealing to the independent voter at all. She needs to press on and keep campaigning hard. She has close to no chance but at least she's keeping the race going.
Money won't be an issue for her.
Like I said , outside interests will be happy to give her money to squeeze Trumps funding by making him spend it fighting the nomination process.
Although I did read an article earlier in the week suggesting that the Biden campaign would prefer if Trump completed the nomination victory quickly so that it definitively becomes a Trump vs Biden discussion.
Apparently a decent sized chunk of the "undecided" voters aren't convinced that Trump will be the nominee , but if he was they'd jump to Biden.
I tend to agree that once the we actually get to the general election campaign and it is Trump vs Biden we'll get a clearer view of the actual support levels for both with Biden improving quite a bit.
If she has no chance then how is it worth it for her? She is hardly doing it for the greater good or to please the peanut gallery.
If she just wants to remain in the race as the default candidate in case the rapist collapses or has to drop out, then there is no point spending loads of money racing Trump, just do the minimum and sit there quietly.
@Quin_Dub
It's career suicide (for a Republican) to go against Trump. If Trump offered her that position, that's likely as high as she would ever rise in politics, so from a pure career standpoint I don't see how it would make sense not to take it. From a moralistic standpoint, it would be more fraught a decision and there also might be a concern that if Trumpism has some real knockdown/dragout confrontation with the federal government (in the case where Trump loses), she could end up on trial if she really throws her lot in, but a lot of US politicians don't seem to care about such questions of morality or law when it comes to Trump, so I don't really expect Haley to be any different. She has already said she would pardon Trump if she became pres, which is huge alarm bells in itself.
There are a few reasons. Firstly, it builds her profile as the anti-Trump candidate now and for the future. She can claim to have stood the course in 4 years assuming Trump is dead or disqualified then for whatever reason. Secondly, it boosts her profile for those not that interested in politics but who might not care for Trump but aren't keen on Biden or the Democrats either. Finally, for the GOP anti-Trump win, it means they get to say that they didn't just roll over for Trump. It also means they'll get to bleed Trump financially rather than just handing him an easy ride.
I'm addressing the point that she continues to spend money going hard after Trump in a race she won't win.
If she continues but does the minimum she can still pretend to have been the only one to stand against Trump. She can still boost her profile without attacking Trump. And when they are bleeding Trump financially they are also bleeding themselves, and thats money she will need in the scenario that Trump does drop dead and she has to run against Biden.
She needs to either attack Trump viciously or just stay out of his way. And she has barely said a word about Trump to date so I don't know why anybody thinks that is going to change.
I dunno if it's career suicide. Both Vivek and Tim Scott looked very cosy with outspan at his press conference last night, although the former looks like trump could take a dump in his mouth, he'd thank him and ask for more
So did I. If she just lies back and spends nothing then she may as well drop out. Next election, she'll raise funds the way the GOP usually does. That won't be an issue.
We can sum this up as follows,
Did you ignore the bit where she is only staying in the race to be the alternate should Trump be unable to run?
And its this election she would need funds for, not the next one. Again, in the event that Trump gets jailed/dies/dementia.
It’s all about deregulation. When you ask them to expand on what it means they dither
That should get her a bar complaint or two. Not that she cares, she’s done lawyering after this fiasco and riding her life out as a couch correspondent somewhere and writing books the Republican Party will buy by the pallet
Nearly 100 years on from Groucho Marx and it's funny how the GOP come to personify one of his more famous quotes
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them...well, I have others .
I wonder how many of them could spell "Oculus" correctly ?
So now apparently Lindsey Graham has come clean:
I would love to have been there when he hugged Fanni Willis just to have seen the look on her face 😁
The level of hypocrisy and lying in the GOP makes the USSR look upright.
huffing glue or meths?
There's very few Trump fans in Ireland so expecting mods to be Trump fans is a leap. 😂
You don't feel that maybe you are coming over a bit...snowflake-ish? Are you under the impression you are making an important 'gotcha' point? Sad, really.
The mod themselves is trans or they mod the transgender thread?
You know this how and why should it matter?
