Slightly off-topic, but not sure where else this fits, but there's a very good interview with former Today FM stalwart Phil Cawley on Mario Rosenstock's podcast. A few interesting stories from the old Radio Ireland / early Today FM days.
And he also specifically mentions this sub-forum. So, Hi Phil!
Spent half of Thursday morning doing the "what would you do with the 100k cash machine" shtick again. Painful.
They started the show the other day with Maria getting all flustered about being called "the lady" in the supermarket. Tuned in again much later, and they were still going on about it, asking for other examples.
I find myself gradually switching away from Today FM. Used to be the only channel I listen to in the van all morning/afternoon during work, but now I move to local radio after Dempsey and briefly return for Music Master. Will stick to Ray Foley if I am still on the road by then.
Dave's show has become increasingly like a housewives favourite with all the banal discussions, while Louis Cantillion has brought nothing to the table yet (apart from 'ceoil' and 'tar eis an nuacht').
Jaysus we are going to be hearing about this festival in Vegas ad nauseum for the next while. I may need to sabotage the work radio 😅
I think KC's show is also broadcast from Cork.
I was actually trying to pick up on a Today FM show being presented from another studio in the GoLoud network.
oh i hear ya! i go collecting kids from playschool, in the car for 10 mins max and i still catch it at leas 3 times a week
I would presume she agreed to the work before getting her own show. She could have booked the work before Pamela Joyce had even decided to leave for all we know and she didn’t want to cancel
I think Maura Derrane is back on Today this afternoon - she usually does Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Sinead Kennedy is the usual Monday and Tuesday presenter but she's on maternity leave, and because poor Maura can't bear a five-day work week (God love her), Louise (and others) have stepped in.
Interesting, Louise is back and is presenting her show from the Red FM studios
Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding-Miracle. Agggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
I know, I know.Lol. Ill ask somebody in work the name of it.
for those of us that don't listen to Today FM, thanks for narrowing the tune down to that 😀
Theres a dance tune they have played twice every day for it feels like months. Im in work so I have to suffer it every day. It starts off with a woman singing and then the tune kicks in. why, why, why? Every bloddy day.
In keeping with the rest of the show, that ask Dave jingle is painful 😩
just in case people thought she was covering for claire byrne on her "Today" show !!
Yes with Daithi.
on RTE 1 TV
Louise Cantillon has been on the Today show last two days which is strange considering her own show just started.
Louise Cantillon starts her much hyped show a fortnight ago and already Shrieking McSweeney is filling in for her.
As incredible as it sounds - I miss Dara Quilty…
Another gimmick Ian to the rescue on the breakfast show.Advertising this in later shows.
Just play good music or else more will switch off full time.
Listening to Matt speaking about Trump and Iowa caucus, I'd be worried for his blood pressure for the rest of 2024!
It really was a good station back then. Now it just reminds me of the moneyball movie. Constantly playing low-risk, lowest common denominator tunes for maximum financial reward. It must piss them off so much that they can't use Matt Cooper's slot to play more Dermot Kennedy/Cian Ducrot/Pink during the evenings. It's like a diet of white bread.
Username checks out...
Fergus Finlay is on with Anton at the moment, it reminded me he used to show up regularly on the Sunday Supplement with Sam Smyth on Today fm....Hard to believe now that type of show even existed on that station.
He doesn't speak Irish, but....
He doesn't speak Irish and doesn't have boobs so he wont be criticised here.
Yeah, if memory serves me right he was brutal and lost tons of listeners. Not sure why they would bring him back to be honest.
Didn't he have the 12pm slot when Ray Foley left?
