He died earlier from a heart attack, very curious guy whatever you think of him. If he didn’t kill Sophie Toscan du Plantier he certainly didn’t help himself by his attention seeking behaviour.
Well seeing as how the cold case review was focused solely on Bailey and they were strengthening the case
I can make another assumption that there was likely plenty to support this view
i'm sure whoever arrived at the scene would have at least noted the state of the body etc
unlikely, not many instances of this in ireland due to lack of guns
I'd say he was **** himself
He was talking bollox as usual that he had new leads for the Garda and why haven't they spoken to him
She had a phonecall at 10 or 11pm that night and her body was discovered at 10am.
So the time of death is anytime between those hours.
The Garda working theory is just based on an assumption.
I agree it's most likely she was killed at night but there's nothing to support this.
it could have been a burglary gone wrong perhaps
Wonder did the pressure if a file to the DPP after an extensive and exhaustive trawl of the evidence, actually bring in his heart attacks ? While his stated position was he welcomed the case going to court I don’t think personally he was too keen on the idea - the Gardai are likely to have the strongest possible case- considering the likes of Graham Dwyer got convicted without any smoking gun per se, it surely must have dawned on Bailey that a similar fate could await him
i also have a sense that she went down to the gate rather than been chased all the way down the driveaway after opening the door to some one - unless that someone was known to her and they had a row after a drink in the house
On your last point
Bailey made the calculation that in the round he would come out a winner there
Garda misconduct
Marie Farrell
The existing circumstancial evidence unsafe
I believe Bailey is highly likely the killer now since it's revealed the cold case review was focussed on him
However at the time he called for the public enquiry he calculated correctly that he would be exonerated
A drop of her blood was found on a rock in the field in front of her house.
So it's assumed she was initially attacked in front of the house, then ran towards the gate.
Is it assumed that the gate was closed, that's why she was caught at the gate?
Or maybe she tripped or was knocked over?
The boots are curious though. It certainly implies she put them on to go outside for some reason.
Nope, they are acting with experience, having overseen many investigations, and flagging unsafe and prejudicial practices.
Correct on the first 2
The 3rd is a theory but not the Garda working theory
The working theory is that she was killed at night
Any theory that fits the timeframe for death is a possibility
However the Garda theory is she died at night
That would require some useful evidence first.
He was a criminal. He was a woman beater. That is a fact. Murderer ? we will probably never know. Very bad choice of wording.
would you go out murdering at night or during the daylight?
No they're not, they're named after charges are brought. And that's always been the standard here.
Condolences from council
Meanwhile, Mr Bailey’s death was also acknowledged at a meeting of Cork County Council on Monday during the vote of condolences.
Independent Councillor for Carrigaline Municipal District, Marcia D’Alton, said that she felt it was “appropriate” that the Chamber remark on the death of the 66-year-old British national who lived in West Cork for several decades.
“There was never enough evidence to prove Ian Bailey’s guilt in the murder of Sophie yet he lived thirty years of his life under that shadow of guilt. Largely because of what was described by the Director of Public Prosecutions as a prejudiced investigation on the part of the gardaí.
“The State handed his files to the French authorities where he was convicted of the murder in his absence.
“Should there be any chance that our State caused this man to live out thirty years of his life under the shadow of suspicion, then I think it is appropriate that we recognise that this is a terrible tragedy.”
Independent Councillor Frank Roche, who represents the Fermoy Municipal District, said that in his opinion, it was “very sad” that Mr Bailey had spent the last 30 years of his life under “the shadow of being a criminal”.
He added: “It is very sad that people who are suffering abuse at the hands of our authorities have to live like this and I hope his life wasn’t cut short because of the corruption of our State.”

It's a bit nuts that the only person who consistently called for a full public enquiry was Ian Bailey.
But but but but that's what guilty people do.
They really don't.
All possible, yes.
But in terms of what was most likely, I favour her just finishing breakfast, her attention being drawn to something at the gate, putting her boots on and walking down to the gate.
It's just an assumption she was killed at night.
It was impossible to estimate time of death.
It's a completely valid theory she was killed in the morning.
It's just assumed she was in bed as it was unmade. Maybe she was reading in bed and got up to eat or put out the fire or do other chores.
It was very cold so she put on the boots while doing this.
I doubt she cared about being fashionable since she was alone (which is another assumption).
The DPP and yourself are acting with hindsight, having reviewed everything.
Its a different matter when an investigation is still relatively early.
She had already been in bed.
What you suggest is possible, but I don't see a sophisticate Frenchwoman walking around her kitchen in hiking boots.
Its more likely that she had a sudden (the laces were not tied) reason to go outside and stepped into the boots to do so.
I think that whatever caught her attention was down at the gate.
Witness intimidation is very common.
I think you're on to something lol
Ring the gardai and let them know it was daytime and not bailey they forgot about the lights being off
The cold case team are wasting all their resources strengthening the case against him
FFS
i think this is false though, they had 25 years to look at this, they have nothing, dead end years ago
It's difficult to know. It was a very cold night. Maybe she put them on whilst pottering around the kitchen before bed.
Then there's a knock at the door.
They're only looking at him
Certain posters have been talking nonsense for a while claiming that AGS have eliminated Bailey as a suspect and are chasing new leads because they haven't spoke to Bailey etc.
He's the only suspect and they've been strengthening the case
From today's paper;
" Theoretically, yes, it could have been someone else - but when Ian Bailey complained that gardaí had not interviewed him as part of the cold-case review that he had called for, it was because, as the Irish Independent can reveal today, the reinvestigation was overwhelmingly centred on him alone.
A mountain of circumstantial evidence has been assembled and verified by gardaí. One hurdle might be surmounted, but a hundred, in sequence, put before a jury? Another tragedy is that it never happened. Justice, like Sophie, never had a chance."
People tend to be honest in their diaries though and they are also useful in that they are fresh as opposed to something remembered several years later. They give a good insight into people's current mental state.
If it was Bailey, it appeared to be a random murder as they did not know each other (according to some).
Essentially their chief suspect murdered some random woman.
Regards his guilt or innocence, the captain hindsights will of course argue otherwise, but when you are dealing with a murderer currently on the loose but with no hard evidence as yet, its best to be cautious.
Go and do my own investigation into the murder and bring my wife and kid with me?
No I doubt I have consumed the requisite number of chemicals required to be that stupid.
