As someone who was on a flight into Derry airport the night the highest gust was ever recorded there, I often wonder the same thing.
It was an experience I will never forget. It was like something in a disaster movie, thought the plane was going to shake itself to pieces.
I'd be fúcking dead by now if I was on that flight.
The earlier Berlin flight that diverted to Glasgow has just taken off from Glasgow presumably to make an attempt to land at Dublin
FR25 CDG-DUB gone around in Belfast (BFS) after diverting
I've been following the Lyon flight, my God that's a long time to be up there. I thought Shannon wasn't taking any more diversions? I know they'd have to in an emergency, but maybe they've made space somewhere lol.
Those pilots are ace aren't they? I was on a side to side crab like landing a few years ago and it wasn't nice. That was after a go around first. Hats off to all of them + crew.
FR5911 ACE-DUB now descending through FL330, BOD bound perhaps?
Descending towards La Rochelle or Bordeaux now it seems.
The Lyon Dublin is quite a flight! Nearly 4 hours in the air
Diverting to SNN, as is EI239 LGW-DUB.
EI553 LYS-DUB gone around on the first attempt to 16 this evening.
Yes some seem to be over an hour extra in the air waiting things out
Yes forecast is a factor in the amount of fuel they will carry,
Would flights bound for Dublin today be taking more fuel aboard for contingency knowing there's a good chance they will have to divert or is there just a standard safe amount aboard at all times?
FR635 has just left Cardiff? Do they really think there's a good chance of getting into Dublin in the next 2 hours?
FR4785 seems to have taxied out at NQY and then thought the better of it.
Some of the Diversions (AFR back to Paris and FR from Lanzarote to god-knows-where) are quite surprising!
Was just about to ask the very question. Quite an unusual one to say the least
Switching to RWY16 in DUB it seems. 51 minutes since the last successful landing.
Amsterdam - Dublin FR3007
Just landed.... in Stansted!
Where in God's name is FR5911 ACE - DUB off to? Didn't even attempt to land and currently heading SSE at 37000 feet over Brittany.
..
yes and a departure - nothing holding at Snn now
Birmingham dublin fr663
Back in Birmingham.. 2 hours 15 and back where you started
Fr555 man - dub, 1 attempt at dub then landed at bva???
Surely somewhere closer?
Might as well try to get into Shannon while the going is good
Quite.
4845 and 3211 on the black stuff in Shannon now.
8110 diverting out of the Cork hold, heading Shannon-wards.
Fustercluck...
Fr509 bristol dublin just pulled back up when attempting a landing
Well it looks like FR3211 is making another attempt at Shannon
EDIT: Landed it Shannon. Fair play
They were saying on Shannon ATC earlier today that Shannon weren't accepting any more diversions as they were full. FR3211 BVA-ORK and FR4845 BGY-DUB are both queueing to get into SNN right now, EI385 LHR-SNN seems to be heading Cork-wards now (which seems futile).
That is quite the diversion.
Where is it heading?Manchester
