She late march 30th but yes I’ll post a pic either way , she is Capone Kez out of 3/4 lm 1/4 hR cow
Don't really know. It just popped upon Facebook last night. This is from the 2023 catalogue.
Ocean (S3628) bull calf only a couple of hours old out of a Lisnagre Handsome (HZJ) heifer who herself is out of a Cavelands Fenian cow. Calved on her own. Hopefully make a nice breeding bull down the line
Looks a good calf, it’ll be good to see how he goes
Any suggestions of a Progressive Genetics Lim bull to use on LMX heifers, good strong square heifers, approx 450kg at the minute. Would be calving down around 25-26 months.
Powerful proper LM 7416
Should have said needs to have stars. Any experience of Lisna sir?
No i wouldn’t use PG bulls much any more, they’ve really lost their way in recent years, a poorly managed company.
Lisna Sir is completely unproven yet, especially on heifers. He might be a bit strong for heifers, time will tell. I’d put the Saler bull Knottown Roy on them, a safe option and nice quality calves.
Rueben is suggested by AI tech
I see his stars are gone through the floor, the whole Eurostar thing is some mess. As far as I can see NCBC basically have no well proven Limousin bulls available, just another pile of new unproven bulls. Lots of the Limousin bulls on their website aren’t even available any more, who do they think they’re fooling.
Anyone any recommendations for a good blue bull that has decent structure and growth mainly to go on limo and limo x sim cows. Not afraid of bit of a pull but don’t want cow killers either.
Bova bull cian is a lovely bull and easy enough calved. Dovea 4438 is good, im also a fan of bova bull chocolate.
Was hoping there might be something to bring a bit more shape than Roy, have 2 nice heifers calved to him and calves are plain. Might be better safe than sorry though.
i would personally go with the safer option of AA/SA on first calvers. I use both breeds on heifers and even at that you can have a tight heifer/big calf and they can be tough enough to get them out. They will go back in calf easier and will have all their lives to be giving you the stylish calves. Get them up and running nice and easy for yourself.
Have used roy a good bit, he seem to click very well with aa, put him on some nice lm and ch and calves didn't seem to turn out as well.
All hairy,quite square stock.
Heifers bulling at young age, it's early days yet, but very easy calved.
Bought 3 Belgian blue dairy cross heifers (genotyped!) by BB5226, BB8493 and BB4494. Anyone any experience what heifers by these bulls will be like for calving? Will be putting them to an Aubrac
PM sent
Can you say what them blues are like to calve?
They would be regarded at easy calving geared for dairy cows with a high dairy beef index. The heifers themselves I would say are a bit on the smallish side, easy fleshed and thriving well
I use LM4217 for heifers (and some cows).
Used a good lot of EKB last year and very impressed
Had a bb heifer calf a Roy heifer calf last week. Nice small dark red calf. Never used a saler or roy before how do the cattle turn out? Is there good growth from Roy stock? I know there going to be plain be I don’t mind that.
I think they turn out fine, that heifer should make a nice cow, is she roan coloured, had a lovely red roan Roy calf of a Simmental heifer a few years ago but it was a bull unfortunately. There is good frame and length to Roy calves, i sell the male Salers as bullocks at 18 months, they sell much the same as the Limousin bullocks i find. Did the blue heifer calve herself?
yeah no roan here very small dark red calf but after growing and filling out really well in the last 2weeks actually a very healthy calf overall. She calved unassisted so I was happy with that. Seems to be developing well in the hips but hard to tell as she has a jacket on but it’s starting to go up her back now as she grows 🤣🤣 will change it out for a larger one when dehorning next week.
Here ya go. Month old Ardlea Rigby heifer calf. Left on top pic.
Her genotyped proof is up already. 4 Stars , 3.4% calving and 5 stars for milk. Her mother tends to breed a bit narrow so I was hoping Rigby would add some width and power. She turned out a lot more maternal looking than I was expecting. Nice head to her.
Rigby has a skeletal figure of 132 which is very high, only for using on smaller cows maybe. She’s fine boned alrite, will be interesting to see how she turns out. The lad in the middle is a lovely looking calf, what’s his breeding?
Ya, he's a nice calf. Mother is 2 year old heifer, bavardage x sympa. By a bull of my own, by Elite Lacette. Mother has loads of milk, so that's bringing him along.
Was just having a look at the Simmental bulls I do use a handful every year aiming to get heifer and some years it works other it doesn't like last year I just used the one and got one fifty cent heifer that's flying doing really well. I have one coming in about a month to leeherd lynx and I only used him because he had great figures last year and I seen people posted pictures of his stock and they where just quality loads of power and size but now I see his figures are just in the dumps. He has a replacement index of of 84 but all his figures look good.
Can anyone explain to be how this obviously very maternal bull only be 84 for replacement? or are icbf just pulling figures out of there arse.
I was going to purchase him in sexed semen but there's no point now. Anyone recommend a good sim sexed bull?
ICBF are giving him a bad replacement figure because they reckon his docility is poor and his gestation length is longer than average, whether this is true i’ve no idea. Curaheen Earp is a serious bull, lovely heifers and very good bulls off him, not available sexed tho afaik.
The best sexed Sim bulls around are Derreen Jack from Bova and Curaheen Gunshot P from Dovea, never used either, the Dovea bull has a fairly high CD figure, mature cows only maybe.
I don't know about that the youtuber down in kerry has one as a pet but maybe that's the exception I will find out in a month. Yeah don't really want to try earp again used him years ago and got 8heifers and 2 bulls so I don't want too use him as i'm due a run of bulls :) Kept most of them heifers and was only happy with half them Iv some culled already
