A lot of people have fetishes that started early on and they don’t always have a cause. It’s irrelevant really because unless you control them you might mess up your own life because of the consequences. That’s clearly what he did because he fucked up big time and lost everything. You can learn control tactics even if the thoughts never go away.

The courtroom scene in Carlito's way comes to mind where he thanks the appeals court and the investigator for making the tapes in an illegal fashion. In fact you could imagine GD trying to make a similar speech except he would be acknowledging his guilt.

I think you could be right here, it's likely that he built up to the point where he was prepared to act out his fantasy.

I find the whole monster label ridiculous no matter what someone did. I think it’s delusional to assume that humans are good at heart because we aren’t.
