I’ve stayed in a lot of hostels in my younger days both in Ireland and abroad and never got asked to leave by day. Hostels are just a really budget friendly type of accommodation. Not everyone’s cup of tea but when you are young and travelling it’s a great way to get around and meet new people.
With regards to shelters for the homeless t’s to prevent them becoming long term accommodation for people and to encourage those availing of the facilities to seek more permanent arrangements.
Most homeless shelters are reset each morning and the residents have to pack up and re apply each evening for a bed/space.
This type of accommodation is supposed to be short term.
Ive volunteered at homeless shelters in Dublin and if they were not reset each day they would just become permanent homes then you would have people not showing up each night and someone else losing out as a result.
Thanks for that, Makes sense!
I could say the same thing about staying in hostels in my younger days (1970's, perhaps my younger days are older than yours :)) and we always got booted out for cleaning. This was in the UK, maybe times have changed.
Before my time I think 🙈
Subway in Oakpark are closing down as of tomorrow, 23rd January! Just saw it on their facebook page!
Thsts the 2nd one in Tralee to close within a year. I get the impression Subway sandwiches just aren't as popular as they were 10 or 15 years ago when they first started opening everywhere. I can't even remember the last time I had one....whereas I used to get them fairly regularly back in the day...
There is still a subway in the foodcourt where Burger King is off the Manor roundabout. I don't know how popular it is though!
Perhaps one branch might survive? There always seem to be a few people queuing up when I drop into Burger King.
The foodcourt could do with a replacement for Bakewell, as it's been gone for a long time since the Applegreen opened up near Manor West.
It will probably do ok in the foodcourt. And they are all franchised anyway, so that one might be doing ok.
Never thought it was a good spot for a subway.
Which spot? 😛
Oakpark
Same here would have gone there once a week at least.
There's been an empty unit next to Subway where the dry cleaners was for a long time now. It may end up the same!
I often thought it would be a good spot for a takeaway, the off licence brings regular evening traffic in there, and they would very much compliment each other.
Having worked in the technology park for a few years, there is absolutely nowhere for workers to go for lunch in the Oakpark area, most people used to head down to kingdom foods in Clounalour. There's probably an opportunity to open a cafe where subway is, particularly with Astellas about to open a plant also.
That's true. There used to be a lot more students living in the Oakpark area, but there doesn't seem to be as many anymore. They are more spread out now or in town centre. Definitely an opportunity for someone to go in there with some sort of food outlet
Is Kingdom food and wine gone?
No but it's only take away.
As said a coffee shop would be nice.
Homecare medical opening up in the old Argos shop.
Sign in the window
Shines pharmacy expanding into the other half of that Argos unit.
Was the medical supplies shop along that strip previously too?
We'll all rent mobility scooters and hammer up and down Denny Street to annoy the Guards.😛
That was Mobility Genie and they moved to Farranfore. Mobility Genie Ireland | Wide Fitting Shoes, Continence Care & More
It was. Didn't they move to farranfore or firies direction
There's a TO LET sign gone up in the old dry cleaners unit up beside Subway in Oakpark. I'm surprised it has sat empty for so many years!
If the owner also owns the Subway outlet, they must be desperate to get some tenants to make up for the rent that's been lost on the two places. They probably weren't that desperate when they were at least getting the Subway rent.
yeah, its probably the same owner. It could even be let as 1 unit if a food outlet or takeaway went in there.
As someone posted earlier, you would think an affordable restaurant or good cafe there would do well and get a lot of passing trade from MTU and the Technology Park. I think something like what Der Sullivans has opened in Monavalley Ind. Est would work better than a Subway. Meadowlands is nice but more for a treat or lunch on Friday rather than a daily food option.
What cafe has der o sullivans in monavalley
In the Liber House building at the corner as you turn into Monavalley Industrial estate from Monavalley road, it's a pretty small little cafe there, take out sandwiches main business I would say, there are seats but it's fairly basic. I have been a few times but only because I was meeting someone around there and it was convenient, not where you'd go for any other reason I'd say.
