Yeah as Jamie Raskin said the other day, the House GOP isn't interested in legislating. They just want to create as much chaos in the Biden Administration as possible, and then run on that chaos. You'd think that voters wouldn't fall for that one but I've no doubt that the GOP voter will lap it up.

Of course they lap it up, cos fundamentally white conservative America - especially those far removed from the border or immigration - are terrified of foreigners and brown people especially; Iowa has neither proximity to the border nor any substantial diversity in its demographics, but the primary "concern" of Republican voters there is "immigration". I think it's a similar narrative across all these flyover, internal states. It's lunacy, until one considers that at best these people are engrained xenophobes and at worst, outright racists.

The point is that I don't think these rumours are helpful just because once the non-Trump people start dealing in them, if only to give Trump and co a taste of their own medicine, it just further normalises that kind of talk. There are only ~10M "unauthorised" immigrants in total in the US so the idea that 600,000 are crossing daily is just nonsense.
And about 60% of those are in 6 States - California , Texas , New York, New Jersey , Illinois and Florida.
So that's ~4M spread across the other 44 States, so the actual likelihood that people in the majority of those blood red mid-westerns states have ever actually interacted with an "illegal immigrant" in any way is beyond slim.
They'll definitely have interacted with a brown person though, which is really what they mean when they say "Illegal Immigrant" , they just add the "illegal" bit to the statement to try and make them seem just a little less racist.

Apparently the Jan 6 attackers were for the most part not the lunatics like the guy in the horned helmet. Many of them were mid-30s, mid-40s white men with jobs, familes and often CEOs or business owners. However the thing they had in common, above any other factor, was a very strong belief in the Great Replacement Theory. These are people who feel threatened by the very idea of non-white people in their country, even if they are not in their states or towns. This might explain some of Trump's appeal, he shamelessly amplifies the GRT with his rhetoric.
