Listening to a podcast the other day, in which the point was made that the courts are the last bastion of hope.
If a politician didn't admit their failings, their fellow party members should act on it, together with the opposition.
That hasn't happened here.
Journalists should hold that politician to account. However, Trump is extremely difficult to manage, because of the waves of BS.
So all that is left is the courts.
And the key difference with that arena is that truth matters there. Trump et al can BS their way all day every day, but when it comes to swearing up and there being consequences for lying, Trump can't do it.
That is why he avoids testimony where he can.
That is why he gives his press conferences outside the court.
That is why it angers him so.

In a sense, Trump is refusing to acknowledge the legitimacy of the courts. His message to his followers is that the whole system is corrupt and out to get him, and having a former president trashing the system like this is very dangerous. It's often a prelude to chaos and regime change.
