they recognise themselves.
Telling racists what they want to hear works in Iowa too....
The guy who can't hold a bible correctly, nor name their favourite chapter/verse?
Yip @MadYaker
"More and more Trump supporters are openly supporting and embracing the idea of Trump returning to the WH and turning our republic into a full-fledged dictatorship. "
Video at tweet:
They don't care. For them, their religion is just an excuse to feel better than everyone else and a justification for cruelty.
In one of my favourite games, Crusader Kings 2, if you become a Satanist, the religion button's cross gets flipped upside down.
Entirely related statistic on this point, backing up the suspicion that bigotry is endemic.
Here's a small, predominantly white (German and Irish apparently) population antagonistic on an issue for which they have no experience or worry about. But Trump & Fox tells them immigrants are to be hated, and so Pavlov's Iowan shakes their fist at non-existent migrants living in their state (bar, presumably, that small percentage living in Des Moines).
The other telling stat is when you see the priority placed on "Border security" by people living a thousand miles from the border is significantly higher than that from people who actually live on/near the border.
It's the key GOP modus operandi - Keep them terrified of "something" so they vote for you even though you are planning to shaft them at every available opportunity.
Saw a lot of video this past week of Pastor's at Iowa churches being openly political in their sermons. 1 went as far as telling his congregation that "I'm not going to tell you who to vote for but, I am telling you that I am voting for Trump"
One of the stipulations for "Tax-Free" status for churches and religious orgs is that they must not engage in partisan political speech or campaigning for parties or candidates.
Long past time the IRS started investigating the activities of the Christo-fascist evangelicals.
Not Permitted: Partisan Speech
Churches and other 501(c)(3) organizations have been prohibited from supporting specific political candidates since the passage of the Johnson Amendment in 1954. The Internal Revenue Code provides that, by definition, 501(c)(3) organizations do not “participate in, or intervene in (including the publishing or distributing of statements), any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office.” In other words, taking an active role in a political campaign can negate a church’s tax-exempt status. If a church is determined to have violated this rule it may be required to pay income tax for every year it has failed to qualify for the exemption due to its political activities.
Much like my mother's favourite retort, when it comes to Iowa and Trump?
I'm not surprised but I am disappointed. I don't know how the partisanship and hyper politicisation of media sources can be dealt with in the US. I do firmly believe though that the current parlous state of US political life is a direct result of recsinding the fairness doctrine. The lack of any popular news source stateside that approaches neutral in their editorial stance is part and parcel of this issue.
Jury selection today in court for 45 in the E Jean Carroll case..
Hope he get absolutely hammered by the jury
"It didn't happen, she's not my type". Thats a bullet proof defence right there!
Not to mention the fact that he was shown a photo of her in his deposition for the first trial and thought it was his ex-wife.
@Quin_Dub
GOP Media Mouthpiece (if they told the truth) :- "Because we've been telling them not to trust it for years without a shred of evidence"
Trump lawyers bringing lawsuits in the wake of the 2020 election:
The case of the 2020 election has already been tried in the court of MAGA social media, where there is no due process or scientific cross examination or consideration of quality of evidence, because those would get in the way of the conclusion they'd jumped to before the election took place, because Donald fúcking Trump himself told his followers that if he lost the election, that meant it was rigged.
There are Trump supporters on this thread who talk some guff, but not a one of them can explain how the election was rigged (if that is their position) despite Trump's legal representatives losing all but one case (about a technical issue) brought forward, or actually most of the cases being thrown out, and not being able to do anything in that realm since then, either. Even the partisan audit in Arizona returned more votes for Biden.
The election was insecure because Trump lost. There has been no consideration made other than that.
But we know this. But the idea that this conspiracy theory's top proponent belongs anywhere near the presidency is utterly bewildering. Biden could be 105 years of age and be a vegetable in a wheelchair and he would still be better than that. It would be great if America could have a president who's both sane and under 65, but the choices being what they are, Biden is the only reasonable choice.
I see that crazy Loomer one is ranting on about receipts for those who didnt support Trump 100% so far.
Lets hope people like her will push enough people away from actually voting for him in November.
The rise of someone like Loomer could be a positive for the world because she represents the continuous upping of the 'crazy' ante in Trumpland. Flood the movement with enough nutters like her and they're too busy fighting among themselves to be very effective as an overall group.
Trump was considering her for Press Secretary if he wins apparently!!
Really? In that case, he'll probably make JFK Jr. the head of the CIA.
Thats why 54% of those who voted for him last night admitted to having "no college education"
only 30% of Iowans have a college education. if 46% of his voters did have a college education then he is attracting the better educated Iowans
I saw on twitter last night: "330 Million people in the USA and all they can manage to get to be President is Waldorf or Stadler"
For those not in the know, Waldorf and Stadler are the names of the two old guys in the Muppet show.
Honestly, I'd vote for a Statler-Waldorf ticket in 24. At least it would be entertaining!
It's fascinating and horrifying that such a person is likely to be the next US president. Is this how dictatorships start? I hope to F that Americans are smarter than that as a whole. Putin must be delighted with how it's all going.
Trump did best in the more religious and lower educated areas of Iowa. Fared a little less in other areas that more mirror the rest of the US.
Atwood is like "I f*cking warned you guys decades ago".
They have also said abortion is wrong and want to restrict it as much as possible, I disagree but tbf they are entitled to their opinion etc and I always felt at least they were sincere.
Trump went out his way to hammer the six week abortion ban which DeSantis implemented and ultimately it lost him zero votes.
That's what's so annoying about Trumpers, at least with RDS, Haley etc their voters are voting on ideology etc, with Trump its a cult, and the only policy that is relevant is "triggering the libs".

No clue how this can been seen as a big victory for Trump. He polled below what was expected, in an evangelical hot spot, and the amount of republicans that turned out to vote was dire.
He did poorly when you look at the numbers, he had been the GOP top dog for 8 years…gets 51% of the vote? Now now…
'No. We’re not a racist country. We’ve never been a racist country.' Nikki Haley on Fox News.
Delusional.
Just telling racist voters they are aren’t racist hoping they might not see her colour when it comes to the voting booth.
Dear lord, that's an astonishing statement to make; especially in light of her dissembling about the civil war. though presumably the Fox anchor didn't chase her up on the decades of slavery underpinning the 19th century economy?
Says the person who changed their name to sound less foreign and indeed has already been attacked for having foreign parents by the leading republican candidate.
