It could have been a Club Card price which has since expired... They rotate between whiskies, as you may be aware.
Strand Road Derry. Reduced to clear at £20.06p.
Been tipping away at my Buffalo trace over Christmas but going to try Jameson IPA edition tonight which was a present for Christmas.
I know this is not bargin thread, but for the Powers John lane fans. Its 45e in tesco. Stock clearance price. Knapogue castle 33e
Which tesco? Online showing normal prices.
Not sure I know. North Dublin somewhere. To me it's just tesco.ie
Edit, somebody posted this on the bargins forum: "Might be just reduced in the store that your home deliveries are fulfilled from, or in that store and some other stores, but not all stores"
This is what shows up for me.
Yea it’s only some stores unfortunately. Neither of those were reduced in my local Tesco. Buskers Single Pot Still was reduced to around €25 from €42 so picked up a bottle, haven’t tried it before.
It wouldn't be worth €42 anyway!
Thanks. Local was showing full price online but checked when I was there - got the last Johns Lane (45), knappogue 12 (33) and also bulleit rye (28.80)
Batch 1 blue spot and rb12 CS Tonight
Not a bad thing
Nice one. Picked up one of each in the local branch. So much for the notion of being reasonable in January 😏
The Yamazaki 12yo and kitkat wasabi flavour ;) Sláinte
Anyone tried the achill distillery stuff?
On the cusp of ordering port Charlotte, anyone tried it? Peat doesn't bother me so just wondering the quality of the whiskey
Peach Tea Whiskey is the third product, just after Black Bourbon and Apple Crisp Whiskey from Stillhouse that I got a chance to try. I was really skeptical at the beginning, mostly due to the transparent color of the liquor and the ‘chemical’ fragrance, but I have to admit it’s really not bad.
Can't imagine the tin doing it any favours though. Interesting enough mind you
That stillhouse label wouldn't be legal in Europe. If it's got peach liqueur in it, it's no longer whiskey in Europe.
It's gorgeous. Up there with Ardbeg and Ledaig 10 but with a wine influence that makes it stand out in a good way
I got the CS for Christmas, thought it was v nice. I think it's 60% ABV but while it's strong, it doesn't hit you in the face
Bought a bottle of Port Charlotte Heavily Peated 10 YO for Christmas, and it's a quality whiskey, it reminds me of Lagavulin 8 YO.
I bought a bottle of Kilchoman Sainig around the same time, and if I had to pick either of them to buy again, it would be the Sanaig, but everyone is different
Sazerac Rye last night.
I'm in Finland, so sampling the local wares.
Both peated...
The Kyro Peat Smoke is a very vegetal rye whisky, and heavily peated... Finnish malt smoked for 24 hours in a traditional shed. Fresh water peat is used... Turf from a Finnish bog?
This is very, very good. The high PPM is not discernable on the nose, but the finish is long and lasting, intensely smoky lakewater. Reminds me of some Kilchoman but more vegetal. It has that same almost brackish, funky quality as their 100% Islay releases.
The rye element adds a sharpness throughout.
At 47.2% this is bloody good, but the Finns are like the Swedes and have mastered selling you a 500ml bottle at a 700ml price 😀
Teerenpeli is a family owned distillery, and they are big into eco friendly distilling. They have a pellet plant using pellets from the local forestry industry that powers a lot of their distilling.
Weirdly, they also age whisky in upcycling shipping containers. Seems weird to me, but maybe it's a great idea, I don't know.
Their stuff is apparently all mildly peated, and this one is a sherry cask special release. 46% abv.
I'm going to try and find out what sherry they used, and for how long, because this is a serious sherry bomb. After tasting thre Kyro I thought "it can only be downhill from here", but this is also very nice.
Overall, the Finns are doing very well!
Usually keep this for old fashions but stock was low
Thought you guys might like this competition too, bottle of Teelings, Irish Coffee glasses etc...
What did you think? Would you recommend it to a friend? Would you buy it again?
Lovely, yes and yes.
Touch of orange from it why its good for old fashioneds. But nice neat too. Bit of sweetness and spice from it.
I hold the normal Kyro Rye in a sample over Christmas and loved it! Very fresh and spicy and zesty. Very different!
Makers Mark is down to 35 quid in Tesco with a clubcard
Today
That's truly awful stuff. Good for cleaning bike chains. That's the best I can say about it.
Taste it back to back with a jameson, tullermore dew, powers. All a class above. Actually, can't think of anything worse than it.
