And they are getting the vacant home grant? They are living in it! This definition of "vacant" is bordering on fraud.
this programme isn't about what people look like! Many of these contestants/family members read these threads.

I was wondering about the vacant thing. Thought it had to be derelict and electricity disconnected for a certain length of time.

I suspect they have a big contingency fund they haven't told Dermo about.

They are going to live with his sister during the build. But from all the interviews etc around the house it's clearly being lived in.
That would cost more. Existing cavity wall house in good shape. Wouldn't make sense to knock it.
I got the impression they were cold so moved in with the sister sooner!
They mentioned there’s €30k grant for vacancy so maybe they had to say they are not there for that purpose.
Through choice because it's too cold for her.
I thought the idea of the vacant home grant was to rescue houses that were falling into disrepair and make them more attractive to a prospective buyer....not let's buy a gaff and not move into it for X amount of months.
Does anyone on this f*****g programme know that you have to spend the money first and then jump through hoops to get the grant money back months later
If that's the case it's really bending the rules.
its always the same with this show - the budget goes over and they absolutely only have (insert figure) to spend, next minute they are looking to add on another bedroom or make the kitchen bigger etc they must have more money then they claim they do, they have to.
Cold is different to vacant. There are grants for insulation etc for the cold. "Vacant" is a very different thing.

Isn't something like that supposed to be detailed in the planning permission application 6 months previously.

Where are people getting the money from, it doesn't add up. They spend €300k on house and assuming mortgage on that then another €220k no doubt more when Dermot finished.
Yet he is a primary teacher and she runs a montessori, you wouldn't be getting huge money out of either.
I'm kinda sick of it at this stage. Meanwhile you have people in similar jobs who can't even get on property ladder, something doesn't add up.
Lots of people aren't that lucky and essentially they've just to wrap up and do their best.
