Some times only 15c. The more of this that is shared here the better. Levels the playing field
It's unbelievable the way kill sheets can be altered to report a price. The best is when flat pricing. The base is driven down to the lowest offering that week. And bonuses to bring it back up. Helps drive the base down for reporting purposes.
Was chatting him last night. Sent 15 to factory in midlands. 1 R-, 9 O+ and 5 O=. All bar 2 were fat score 4. I presume the 2 outliers were 3. I didn't ask him that. Averaged 285kg. So, before deductions, I make that €1,567.50. Not bad for middling cattle.
Anyway, back to pricing. If we take it he got 10 cent HE bonus. And 20 cent Bord Bia, that leaves 5.20. If he was to get 5.20 based on grid pricing, that's 5.32 base price for the O+. Aren't I correct with this? Now, bare in mind, this man sends over 200 cattle a year to factory. Mostly over the summer off grass alone.
He is thinking about batching the worst of his 2022 born bullocks together for a load, and feeding them meal to finish in April. He thinks he will do better getting rid of some of these before the price starts dropping over the summer. An interesting take on things. I think most people would concentrate on feeding the better cattle from the shed.
We're these underage Angus or Herefords because they were nearly all 4 fat and were they heifers as the results look better than just middling cattle also carcase avg under 300kg would indicate heifers also was he on a flat price or on the grid
5.50 flat for HEX Heifers. Coming up on 24 months. Could have been on meal since mid Oct. Heifers are a devil for going over fat. I don't bother with them myself as they don not suit my system.
That price was good he would not have ended up with anything near 5.50 if on the grid, the factory is always in total control with the grid and its all about bringing your final paid price down as low as possible, lots of lads are suspicious about when their cattle go flat the grades often seem quite good but when on the grid the grades don't seem as good ??
Any farmer that pays his rte television licence should get his hole kicked off him around the yard.
I was watching that "operation transformation" and listened to some young one tell the fat fella that he should not eat any red meat as it was linked with cancer. I could not believe it.
I had hardly seen the program since that drug addict Gerry Ryan was weighing in the poor fuuuckers with their tight belly tops long go. Please GOD send us someone who will speak up for the likes of the farmer that spends his life caring for his animals and land.
RTE should be left die, than to be peddling their biased shitttt every night to the public.
This fella was "no saled" in skibb fat stock a month ago for €1750. Same man bought him again in bandon Monday.
I don't understand your message. Animal was no sale in Skibb and he was sold in Bandon on Monday (by the same owner). Is that correct?
I've cows milking oad, there in good nick but not ready for factory. What weight would they put on a day, on 6kgs of beet and 5 of meal
Cattle always seem to be less the further south you go and beef price has increased in the intervening time. However €1750 a month ago was hardly much good for him even then imo? He'd still have been the bones of 700kg mart weight or maybe I'm wrong. The same bullock about here could make nearer €2500 atm which doesn't seem to add up with the current beef quote but it's still happening. There was a quare smile on the seller exiting the box on Monday I'd imagine.
That's it. He was unhappy with the price n brought him back home
I'll find out what he weighted the first day.
He have made much the same in the factory. Off mart weight he would probably kill 56% or 417kgs @ 5.4/kg, 4.15 base, 20c QA and 6c for being an R+.
A month ago base price was 4.9 and he was probably 30kgs carcasses weight lighter as well as being an R=.
Inthe last few weeks it seems processors are grading either
Edit I tried to uploadt this 4 hours ago
Cull beef cows were absolutely flying in Delvin yesterday. You would be mad to kill a cow yourself at the moment
Will u grade cows hit €5.00 next week
Heard big money on offer this week for the right stock..can't say anymore for now. Just everyone fight hard the ball is very much in your favour.
Heard that before. But as always the factory's will win.
Right now they're losing!
I doubt that very much.
They only need to get over the next 2-3 weeks and the cattle will start flowing out of sheds as they hit 90+ days feeding, there efficiency will fall and lad will have to start selling.
Definitely not losing their is still a big difference between irish vs UK price and look at what they are paying at marts for Angus freely 3 euro per kilo which is a long way ahead of factory price you can be sure they are making very good profit on the mart purchased angus
Other years yes , last year the opposite happened. Got 5.40 in Feb for fr bulls. Took a good while to come back. Not near as many feeding cattle now as used be
I can't see the factories ever losing.
They might not be making quite as much these weeks but they're still making plenty. I'd say the managers are just buying the €29 bottle of wine on the way home rather than the usual €35 bottle.
A glance at Carnaross there, AAx bullocks 515Kgs making €1,570 its a fair shot for them. Anything fit for the hook is €3 + per kg. That's getting close to €6 on the hook.. at the same time 1 kg of mince in the butchers on Saturday was €11.40..
I have one oddball heifer. Friesian, 33 months old, never had a calf, well fleshed, about 640kg, would grade O- or maybe O=. Anyone see anything similar selling in the last few days?
Factored two first calvers similar to the above came into a average of 1250 in factory
I’d say your 2 had calves registered to them @jaymla627 ? My lady never had a calf. The mart would suit me handier for one animal but if I wouldn’t get her value there I’d factory her.
Just out of interest did you weigh these cattle live so that you can compare to mart price
Not a fraction.
