Irelands record in world cups is equally poor. Can’t get past the QF stage.
Hardly delusional. He mentioned our awful post world cup 6 nations record and the fact we have England and France away.
But we didnt come close to winning it. Muppets.
The coming year preview was shocking yesterday. Had a chap on who when asked about euro 2024, said he'd only tune in at the semis stage if England were still in it. Also Duggan and some other chap were so desperate to tell us England are going to walk it.
Also that nonsense "sport" horse racing got too much air time
Funny how its a touched nerve when I complain but when others do it incessantly, its accepted.
See above.
Yes I do guess. Just like you "think" ger wasn't being arrogant that night.
Just because you think you're right, doesn't mean you have to be a d1ck about it!!!
Cop on to yourself. Who do you think you are!
It seems that way now but once the “build up” begins the excitement will start to kick in.
Their content is more expensive on Spotify - they said this on the show one day and said it was beyond their control.
Its 9.99 on Spotify and its 9.99 on their app.
I assume the full year discount doesn't apply on Spotify. That's the only (?) case where it is more expensive.
That's probably it to be fair. Thanks!
fixed it for ya
"He never gave the ball away. When I say he never gave it away, he might have gave it away once or twice in his career, Joe"
"You only have one brain, you can only think of one thing at a time, Joe"
Joe: "Would a centre forward not be told go and mark him?"
Gilsey: "HOW COULD YOU MARK HIM AT CENTRE BACK JOE??"
Joe: "Well what was the centre forward doing?"
Gilesy: "He was runnin' around...Joe"
Listening to A slight Tangent now.
They go after Jordan Henderson again for going playing football in Saudi Arabia.
But Tiger Woods crashing his car while high on meds after getting assaulted with a golf club by his wife after years of riding all around the place is a great laugh.
Their moral compass is a bit fcuked up.
Completely. The Bookie sponsorship is very disgusting
In fairness that very point was made during the discussion.
Giles is a tough listen for the last 5 years or so. Sad to listen to at this stage.
You'd feel apart from otb he wouldnt be gettimg airtime amymore.
Henderson is some form of anti christ for making a living in Saudi Arabia according to OTB. The same OTB that were organising a golf trip to Dubai to make money.
This thread is a strange place............
I suppose my point is that when you broadcast such strong opinions on matters like the presenters on OTB regularly do, you better make sure you are holier than thou or if not so, then at least consistent. Or you will be shown to be a hypocrite just as they did in that little section last night.
He was actually good on Beckenbauer, his story about meeting him at an Everton game and arguing over the '75 European cup final was brilliant.
He also said that if Leinster don't win the European Cup they "may as well give up" and if Rory doesn't win a major this year then he (you've guessed it) "may as well give up" too. Also that "England have serious momentum now and they will win the 6 Nations". Did he not see who England beat to get to a World Cup semi final? This was all in the space of 60 seconds. He is a clown.
How do you think the subscription is going for the lads?
I was a regular listener to their podcasts, particularly the Sunday paper review but I haven’t missed any of them since going behind a paywall. I’ve found free alternatives.
Póster a few pages back who knows someone related to the show said they made their end of year target.
I don’t know anyone who has signed up. I expect subs are a lot better then people on this thread make out but worse the. OTB expected.
It is undoubtedly where Giles is at his strongest - talking about players from 20+ years ago. He always has a great story or two about players he played or managed with/against.
As to today's game, I don't really feel he contributes much to the show to be honest. Compare him to the lads on Second Captains for example, he's not at the races.
As an aside, fair play to Joe on the interview with Luke Humphries. He always does a good interview and referred to Luke Littler briefly but also made sure to make the interview about Humphries himself. He only practices an hour or two a day he said, I presumed professional darts players would practice for hours on end. Was a roofer up until a few years ago, so has seen the other side of life. Came across well.
I agree he's not as sharp as he once was (how could he be at his age, with everybody else from his era dead or with brain trauma from heading a ball made of stone), but I'll take Gilesy any day over 95% of football pundits. Also I feel sorry for John that he has to talk to Joe, not the other way around.
Guys?
Agreed, he's still in their top 30% content wise. He's not full of the shiny statistics spoof.
Giles is the complete opposite to the new breed of pundit - who full of stats and details but maybe miss the wood for the trees at times.
Giles relies on cliches like “player x doesn’t have it, joe” or “can he do the business on the big days, when it matters?”
Ive been watching and listening to Giles for years and he has always been like this.
His role or image is the wise old senior pro, a “football man” to his core.
There is more to the man, but he seldom reveals it.
As Mark Tighe and others found - Giles abruptly shuts down even slight questions on his connections to John Delaney and the John Giles Foundation
Who was the female presenter on today’s (Sundays) off the ball? Don’t think it was Kathleen McNamee, think she was called Kelly something.
She was on for the paper review. Not a presenter.
Think they said the MD of Teneo
Hurling Pod back today.
Free 30 mins one every Monday, another on a Thursday but have to be a subscriber to get that.
