They can recycle the J seats though, right?
With all the things going on with boeing be a bad time to be thinking about dreamliners for aerlingus
No time like a crisis to get a discount; but at this stage the 787 is the only current passenger airliner they can sell that doesn't have either an indefinite wait (777X) or a massive cloud (737max) so they may not offer any.
787 has a history of quality issues, but as it stands is the only clean sheet aircraft Boeing is building currently
Strange logic. IAG announced their MOU for a Max order right in the middle of the grounding.
Probably be because they got them for dirt cheap maybe ? I think it's still undecided how there been allocated within IAG.
I still suspect its a bogey order to get discounts on other kit and will eventually vanish.
Well yeah of course, I was saying the OP's logic was strange, that now would be a bad time for EI to announce a 787 order.
Possibly yeah IAG seem happy with the A320neo and I couldn't see EI, BA or IB changing. Even BA having them based out of Gatwick was which was mentioned before sounded very far fetched.
Yes and no imo. The MAX problems are far worse than the 787's ever were. And the general public will remember that a lot quicker than any of the 787 issues.
Well yes that's what I was saying, that IAG were happy to order the max in the middle of the crisis so I don't see EI worrying about a potential 787 order now.
IAG means nothing to passengers so then ordering MAX gets no attention. Boeing only becomes an issue for Aer Lingus if they had pending deliveries of a MAX within a year. They would need to rebrand like Ryanair.
The B787 production issues were in the early part of the program. Very few non-avgeek passengers would remember this.
The issues with the MAX have been prominent in public perception. EG. 2 days ago I say a FB post about a delayed flight in Canada (with AC) Every 2-3 comment mentioned the Alaskan incident or "was it a MAX?"
Any update on the EI-EIL/EIK upgrades? I see comments here referencing the economy cabin being updated, but surely the awful business cabin will be looked after too?
Top to tail cabin (incl. business, ife, wifi etc.)
And still scheduled for this month?
The 787 has had more recent issues than the initial battery concerns and subsequent inspections in 2013.
In 2019 quality concerns sparked an investigation, in 2021 more issues on the final assembly lines resulted in the FAA suspending deliveries for over a year between 2021-2022 and Boeing‘s ability to self certify each aircraft was temporarily removed, and just last year a problem with the fittings on the horizontal stabiliser slowed deliveries once again while inspections could take place.
While these issues aren’t major public stories outside of aviation circles, particularly Seattle based ones, it still has a knock-on for airlines and it definitely weakens Boeing’s negotiations with big orders which is good news for the likes of IAG which will be eager to take full advantage.
This 'down season'... Now until maybe early April.
FNG is in Bordeaux currently, so expect FNH and others to head there as well between now and April
They're both there at the minute as well as DAA.
FNH should be due back first.
When will repaints continue? It's been 5 years since the new livery was introduced
They started back in December!
In fairness well over half the fleet is now in the new livery. It currently stands at 33 excluding the Emerald ATR’s which are mostly in the new livery too.
There’s still 11 A320s in the old colours, some I would imagine will be leaving the fleet before they require a repaint.
As for the wide-body fleet, 10 A330s remain in the old. With some expected to get repainted this winter.
Hopefully by the time they are done, they decide to keep one in the excellent iconic green livery, as a “retro” livery.
Nothing beats seeing the “green plane” in taxiing in in the US to take you home.
That won't happen. If it was that "iconic", they wouldn't have changed it in the first place.
You never know, stranger things have happened… AA kept one 737 in the old chrome livery! It’s certainly possible albeit unlikely! There is a rumor of another retro on one of the incoming A321XLR’s too.
EI-DVM in the retro 1960's livery is staying in the retro livery, has been repainted after the new livery launched.
Just needs a matching engine cowling.
AA actually do a terrific job of recognizing their heritage with vintage liveries, they also have US Airways, America West and Piedmont liveries in the fleet.
Don’t forget TWA😍
