Hands up my bad. 🤦♂️🤦♂️
Or the Brisket ( between the front Legs )
Cod is the bag alright.
The doolap is between the front legs. If this is full, they’re ready for road!
Cod is the ballsack.
just a nicer way of saying it.
think of Shakespeare and the codpieces the men wore back then
An example of a nicely finished Hex
bullock at 30 mth who had access to good grassland & finished on 180kg nuts over 60 days, sold mid October 2023.It would be great if people included some pictures of there animals & grade/weight information.
They're pushed but can guarantee there still making a healthy profit.
Show's how much we were being rode during the summer.
@Cavanjack probably didn't do factories any favours. Quick look through the Carnaross there and there was over 200 bullocks in it and price's for heave cattle appeared strong. Its interesting to see what they can give if they are pushed.
I’d say the roads this morning upset the supply too. A lot of back roads were impassable around the country until late morning.
Neighbour bachelor in his 70 ies had a mad heifer he couldn't get in from the field back in November. Left 2 others with her. He asked if I would give him a hand over Christmas to get them in. With moving the trough and back fencing with white tape we got into a shed last week. She had gone over 30 months. This man feeds good U grade Ch heifers. He rang the factory this morning at 9 am to see about getting her in this week maybe. Reply was if you can have the 3 heifers here by 11, you will get €5.10 on the grid and your 20 cent qa on all 3 heifers. He rang me there 5 minutes ago to say he was on his way back up the road with his cheque and he was a very happy man.
Any quote updates for the week?
As we stand at the moment, but the agree re the coming weeks
The way the job is going and this is my opinion...that will be a poor price in the coming weeks.
It wouldn’t have been considered is some had to be more honest. Sadly
Not an issue when you breed your own and buy from a source which does the same. Its going to move to where they will want genotyped stock
That is exactly it, it exactly tge same as not dehorning within a couplweksvof birth or castration when appropriate
Sadly some are
I don't understand - surely they aren't putting down sire tag unknown when they are registering their calves.
Generally the herd of origin didn’t give the sires details, just his breed. That’s why it’s not shown
Can you get their sire details on ICBF when they are in your herd.
The catch is you need sire details on the card. A lot of cattle seem to be missing this detail so you will not get the bonus. Have about ten cattle tgat would fulfill the conditions but no sire detail
Ya looks totally diuffrom the rear. Needs 6-8+ weeks. He will probably go over 36 months. You have not a lotbof money put into him yet. I would consider pulling the meal to 2kg, do that for a month and pull it completely and put him to grass. Kill him in laye May early June.
Price will probably not rise much over the next 8 weeks. However it depends if you can get him to grass in early March
Seems to be little more suited to the smaller finisher with less than 100 cattle. A means of getting close to feedlot monies. Price is set for the week. Bullocks and heifers are that same price on it.
Anything in the 4.80-5 range for flat depending on the mix of os and ps
Yep, just came into finish very quick. Aubrac crosses.
What type of a price should one be expecting for 30 fresian bullocks, all overage
Hung 2 20month R grade heifers with Larry on Friday, base was €5 and the payout was €5.40 and €5.46 with his sustainability scheme. 53.5%killout
Needs at least 6 weeks feeding. Key is look for the trailhead to be sunk in fat. 2 lumps each side of the tail head. That's the first place to look, then his ball sac and the cod ( between his front legs)
Up the meal to 6-7kg/day and split between 2 feeds
This is him from the rear
Beet.
I wouldn’t chance him yet. At least another months feeding needed. Doesn’t look at all covered round the tail.
He could also move up a grade coming from a 2= to a 3-.
