He can voice track it from now til the end of time if he wants to 😂
I am surprised at how dead/automated the RTE Gold schedule is over the Christmas season considering RTE recently committed to retaining it permanently.
It won't be just RTE gold doing that!
There's no ABC to ATC next Saturday alas.
The Twitter feed suggested Will Leahy was live at least?
Back with shows on NYD with another Top 100 show. The automated music post Christmas has been good in fairness- a lot of variety and mixing up the decades
Ronan Collins played Limbo Rock by Chubby Checker today
Fair play, you'd never hear stuff like that anywhere else on Irish radio
RTE seem to only have the orchestral version (from the 2000s) of Aslan's "This is" on their playout system, meaning that the much better original single version is never played on RTE.
If anyone in RTE is reading this, please update the music database !!
FYI Truffles is now doing presenting duties on RTE Gold. He is currently filling in for Amanda Fennely on All 80s Saturday.
I think you’re right, even on 2FM in the early to mid 2000s you’d only ever hear the orchestral version.
He’s sounding very good
Will Leahy's top 30 today was from 2010 today, that too recent for Gold imo, it's not like there's a lack of 10s music on FM radio
Erik 'Truffles' Threlfall was live on Radio 1 continuity duties last Saturday also.
He plays recent music on the breakfast show so not very surprising. Gold should be 20 years or more imo.
It sure upsets the purists
That's 14 years ago in fairness.
if you heard a retro chart from 1970 counted down on a radio station in 1984, would that be too recent ??
Have to agree with you on this. The Classic Hits/Music Mix/AC formats (well the good ones anyway 😀) do eventually have to move on and incorporate music from more recent years into their playlists. What Gold needs to do is to choose music from the past 15 to 20 years that is compatible with their general 'sound'. I have noticed that Gold does seem to sometimes reference the US HotAC radio airplay charts from over the past 15-20 years . IMO, I think this is the best source of contemporary mainstream/pop/rock radio friendly music that has a kind of adult edge.
im still in shock everytime I look at the CBS-FM playlist (the heritage ‘oldies’ station in NYC) because they’re well into the 1990s now.
Then I remember that I’m old 😭
And then you probably find some of that music doesn't get any airplay on any of the Irish AC stations. Because of that, when a station like RTE Gold does play something from that playlist, some listeners are hit with something out of the blue and can feel that they (RTE Gold) are overstepping the mark. IMO good radio friendly mainstream music is subjective but it's not just applicable to the 60s/70's and 80's.
RTE Gold usually go with the safe "recent" stuff such as Taylor Swift, Girls Aloud, Ed Sheeran, George Ezra, Kings of Leon
Apparently RTE Gold went down for a couple of hours this am.
What time? Was ok at breakfast
I think it was during the Ronan Collins slot, bless him he wouldn't be able to do anything about it though as he was probably out playing a couple of rounds🙂
it was not accessible on Google smart speaker, not sure about other methods ?
ok now
The official RTE player was definitely out, not too sure about the Irish player app. Listening to Rick O'Shea it sounds like the live feed was out on the sever end. Playback of shows were still available.
slightly off topic - though does Rick have the easiest live 'permanent' radio gig in the country, for the money that he is paid ?
a 3 hour show, around 3/4 links per hour reading only a few listener texts and promoting his pre-recorded show "the Gold lounge" that is broadcast on sunday.
it is no wonder why he hasn't left RTE for the competitive and sales driven commercial sector !!!!
by the way, I love RTE Gold and Rick !!!!!!
My honest opinion, I really like his presenting style on RTE Gold. The only problem I have with him is that I think he's a little on the self indulgent side imho.
Sounds like Rick has some regular RTE Gold playlisted songs he is obliged to play, then for the free song slots - he adds his own tastes or takes listener requests.
In this weather?
Without checking on every other radio presenter I don’t think we will ever know. I’m sure they do other bits too. He will be preparing specials like the bank holiday Top100s and he’s regularly on the Clare Byrne show. I know he was doing something with Space Ireland the day Shane McGowan died, whether that is Rte related I don’t know ( provided commentary on a satellite launch IIRC)
Response to GSF:
Yeah, you are probably right. But wherever he was I don't think he was too worried about the feed going down.
Ah look I'm just nitpicking!
