The domestic JAL 747-400s didn’t have winglets fitted, as the aerodynamic improvements only overcome the extra weight penalty on flights in excess of 4 hours on that aircraft type.
Any truth to EI-EIL/EIK refit being pushed back? Another year of them would be unacceptable.
The lack of public acknowledgment from the airline regarding these frames is incredibly poor management of the situation. The complaints about them are endless and very public.
It’s a good example of the wider secrecy culture at Aer Lingus.
What could EI mgt say?
What they always say: throw them on MCO, ORD and MIA and hope no one notices. If they do, throw them those $50 vouchers.
No this is not true and both aircraft are receiving cabin upgrades with the new economy seat within the coming weeks. All the kit and seats are now ready for fitting.
I've been told that EI Mgmt have been constantly repeating "Q1 2024" to staff for the last 6-8 months.
Are they getting Wifi fitted too?
Yes they are getting wifi and the very latest Panasonic IFE systems.
Any idea if the economy seats are being upholstered in the old-style a330 'green' or the newer LR greys and lime bead... Assume the latter.. it's part of the rebrand?
I would assume they will have the green seats, the two newest A330s were delivered around a year after the rebrand but still have the green economy seats.
It is not the old green seats... Seats look fantastic and will initially be rolled out on EIL/EIK and then the XLR's will also receive the new seat before others get a new lease of life and a new look. Massive step forward and I think people will like them.
So before long people may be hoping that their flight is being operated by one of those two A330s...
Looks like lrd be coming back today if not it be soon
That's what I was thinking... And to be fair, the airframe and engines are all seemingly reliable and tickety-boo, so as a passenger it's about the cabin furnishings and atmosphere. Looking forward to seeing the new style (although I think the LR cabin 'style' is quiet snazzy/impressive .. those headrest covers on the greys really do give it a fresh modern pop).
Pictures as soon as anyone gets a look-see.
Might be a stupid question when ei lrd does comeback do aerlingus send a crew out or they hired in
They position a crew + engineers the night before, they will overnight then and do the check over and operate back the next day.
Indeed, that is the irony
EI-LRD ferried home from Cincinnati last night. Arrived this morning at 5am.
Operating DUB-JFK at the moment.
And back to SNN today. Keep the SNN and ORK people happy with the top notch gear!!!!!
Could be getting repainted judging by this photo of its tail.

You could be right but I wouldn't rely on that photo alone. The aircraft was probably deiced before departure, so we could be looking at traces of that.
Did anything come out of the investigation of the tailstrike out of interest?
2 LR's in SNN this afternoon, but only BOS service from today onward which LRA is operating
I'm due to fly to Orlando on Feb 10th, any chance it will be done before then I wonder?!
Very unlikely. It's big job to refit the entire cabin, ife, wiring, wifi, and whatever else they might be doing... But if they're out of service you'll be more likely on the standard configuration which isn't bad.
Until someone notes one of those aircraft ferrying somewhere we won't have a timeline/estimate for the refit.
Feb 10th is only 4 weeks away, so unlikely to be sent off and back before then.
The good news for you is, if they are off for refit then you can’t have them, so you’ll have one of the standard A330s.
With the two of them being 16 & 17 year old frames and getting a full refit, from a financial point of view how long should EI be looking to keep these in the fleet for ?
Is it true that either LAX or EWR got an new cabin fitted a year or two before getting the chop ?
New seats started in 2015 and LAX was fairly early in that process, LAX was scrapped in 2022, 23 years old, owned outright by EI
EWR got the cabin in 2015 and was scrapped in 2020, leased, so the decision to scrap was made by lessor after return.
EI LRD is hangared in Shannon for its "annual" maintenance check for the next week+.
