You will need to write thesis on each of these failures as some posters don't think there is any problems and FG have been the best thing since sliced bread
Why not? People did vote for them, they got over 7% of the vote
Because they have no mandate with such a minimal level of support.
Niche party with poor performing and unpopular members.
They have 12 elected representatives.
How many should be required to be allowed to be part of government?
And nearly all from the same area.
Roderic OGorman got 4901 votes and look at him now.
An absolute sham if a system
Keep putting words in my mouth if you wish, and keep avoiding the questions asked of you, it's what the truly smart do.
Will anyone name another party to vote for or are we all going to keep trotting out the same old shite that we've all been hearing for years now?
Terrorists, magic money trees, yada yada, ad infinitum.
İt's boring and old at this stage, get some new material, please. You're a copped on person, you must have something better.
Any half credible Independent who understands public concerns about our growing population will be getting my vote. And if that means we have a strong group of Independents dictating policy after the next GE, then good enough. The main parties have received warning from the public.
Last year 30,000 Irish citizens emigrated & Corporation tax is increasing to 15% under FF/FG.
The country's in a mess, an absolute state.
They just have to even have an interest in housing, cost of living, the crises facing small businesses etc.
No one is forcing FG and FF to have no interest in housing etc, that's a choice they are making themselves.
FG, if they could be bothered, should be aiming for a near majority in their own, they aren't though.
It's FG and FF who have SF at over 30%.
So next general election it will be a continuation of the current job-share government between FF & FG, with the balance made up by whichever independents can be brought in, and if people complain we'll be told "well vote for the change you want next time".
What a horrible general election this is going to be where the choices we have are absolutely awful
Is anyone surprised. Inconvenient truths do hurt them..
i think my post was clear, Sinn Fein policy is to tell everyone they will get what they want but none of the figures add up
Example, the health guy on radio saying Sinn Fein will hire loads of new consultant and doctors, when pointed out to him consultants and doctors are the ones targeted by the Sinn Fein “tax the rich” policy and how would he hire them by offering them less money than they can get now. No answers. He actually said you would need to talk to Pearse on that.
Just a quick example of Sinn Fein and what they are about
Never mind starting with the “tax the rich” while saying they will get rid of LPT which is a tax break for the rich
This gets pointed out all the time and the response is something about fear etc
What does where the TDs are from have to do with anything? Its still 12 TDs.
What government should have been formed from the last election, in your opinion? If the Greens don't have enough votes, that leaves SF, FF and FG as the only options, as all other parties had fewer seats than the Greens. The only way to make a majority government using those 3 parties would have been for all 3 to go into coalition. Is that what should have happened?
Our system has plenty of flaws, but it's far superior to the likes of a FPTP system where a majority government can be secured with far short of 50% of the vote and no compromise.
Country is in desperate need of a right leaning party. The needs for balance is paramount now.
How many citizens returned?
Less than 30,000 and frankly why is the number returning a factor. The fact remains 30,000 Irish people have left this country seeing no future in it and that's because of FF/FG. The fact that you take comfort in people returning is sort of weird. This is their home. They earned their money abroad. They didn't return because of FF/FG in government but they're leaving because of that.
You do the same as every election, read the policies and vote for the best party based on those.
It's up to voters. It looks as though they may have at least one genuine right of center party to choose from in the next election.
Of course Fine Gael are supposed to be that party occupying that space but they aren't.
In today's Indo:
More than 21,000 Irish citizens were granted Australian working holiday visas in the 12 months up to July last year — the highest recorded figure in at least 16 years.
Varadkar has wrecked Fine Gael by moving the party to the left wing. So many of the rank and file are dislusioned or have left the party.
Yeah but we will be getting 15000 plus asylum seekers every year to try replace them.
Also after the next referendum it will be easier for immigrants to bring over their families so we will replace those young people no worries. All is well
Right wing you surely mean Francie, trying to shove government policy onto local communities and threatening to monitor them with Gardai. Telling them they have no right to decide what happens in their local communities.
In the year to the end of April 2023, there was a difference of 900 people (30500 emigrated, 29600 immigrated) in terms of migration of Irish citizens.
It is incredibly disingenuous to suggest that everyone who leaves is an indicator that they "see no future" in this country, but then try to downplay that all the people returning seemingly do see a future in this country.
I know of a few people who emigrated in 2022, not because they saw no future here but because they wanted to experience life in another country. They are planning on returning in 2024. In 2022 would you have said they see no future here?
The current government (and countless before them too) have had plenty of flaws and failings, but they are also far from the worst possible government we could have (sure, just look at the north of this island, or to the island to our east to see some worse ones)
I did answer your question. It was the first sentence of my reply to your post.
I never put words in your mouth either, I offered commentary on SF's proposals.
Not sure what the last part of your post means, I'm guessing you were trying to be rude condescending and clever, looks like it didn't pan out the way you'd hoped.
Australia don't take in wasters who are bussed into small towns under cover of darkness, they take qualified educated people who can look after themselves and contribute, and that's only Australia, the numbers for Canada, US and Dubai/UAE aren't shown. The brain drain in this country is a massive problem that no one is talking about.
Agreed, boils my piss to potentially vote for the incumbent clowns just to keep the lunatics from taking over the asylum.
Ah . . . the oul Mary Hanafin excuse of "People like to leave Ireland for adventure". Aure why don't we bring in the Brian Lenihan Sr excuse of "There's too many people living on this island".
People are not leaving for adventure. They're leaving because of a housing crisis entirely of FF/FGs creation.
But why, what happened? I voted for them in the past. They are meant to be the party of law and order and supporting working people but we are miles from that as a nation, they've had 12 years and they've made things worse.
