Alanis could add another verse to Ironic after reading that post...
Just in the door from lanzarote, airport there handling roughly a plane every 3 to 4 minutes between arrival s and departure s its unreal to think the problem is the cows, absolutely no doubt there is a big cover up when it comes aviation emissions
7 planes visible over the farmyard at the minute all coming our going from America
Crazy stuff with the s**te been slung at us
Think we've a filter on new set up, wasnt one on old one
This is how it's set-up here
Theirs no contamination from compressor
Do you need a filter on the air line?
Drain the compressor every few months, we had problems with tbc, it was the water in the bottom of the compressor that we eventually found was the problem
Livestock Live.
Are you looking for a few?
Great job no more milk spilling on top of tank. If you have an auto washer on machine make sure to put a safety latch on wash pipe so you can't put machine in wash mode if milk line is still attached to bottom fill.
have a back up compressor in case the one being used breaks down.. other than that fire ahead...
Anyone have any issues with air purge and bottom fill system? Thinking of putting it in here
Rain was falling with such speed it flowed off land i was out on land and it surprised me how dry it was but theres wet spots where i never seen before it could be next april before these dry havev tracks washed away that have been in 20yrs
Emptied 2 tanks I’d been storing parlourvwashings in today …..very surprised at ground conditions considering how wet last few weeks have been …contractor booked and will be tearing into slurry next Friday /Saturday ….I see no reason why season can’t open early next week for lads on land that is dry and can travel
Surly the farmer would be doing that to stop tank’s filling and having to spread water, looking for a grant to keep water out would be hard sell to justify.
Which of the apps was that sale on ?
If that looks like verifying there'll be slurry moving like no one has ever seen from the window opening until the rain/snow falls. Lads will be under serious pressure to get it out
I watched some of that dispersal sale in Cahir earlier. Didn’t see all the cows selling but plenty went for €1500-1800. To my untrained eye it seemed to depend mostly on milk delivered last year, then calving date and what they were in calf to. Milk delivered was around 4,500 in 1st lactation, up to 6-7k for most, but up to 8-9k in some cases.
The 1st lactation cows were similar but they probably averaged €100-200 less overall.
The maiden/yearling heifers were sold in batches of 4, weighed from 220-270kg, and went for €650-800. That seemed like a bit of value to me, given the above figures of the herd they were coming from and the cost to get a calf to its 1st birthday.
I’d have bought some but I’m going to try pick out a few from a cousin’s herd this week.
Ya they will sure it was the recommended way to dry cows since before the inception of acot
Went to oad last few days cows dropped dramatically.
It's not nailed on yet, but if this weather prediction comes to pass, it really will be the icing on the cake re mother nature letting us know she's the boss
For sure. A few farms fully paid for throwing off lots of cash can get a new one going very quickly
Obviously they've worked hard to achieve what they've done but the economies of scale do come into to it as well, esp when it comes to doing projects out of cashflow
The first one is the hardest, the blocklayer told me when we built, but you’ll get good at it after you build 2 or 3 he said.
I nearly swung for him 😂
the building I’m on about was built on to it. House /extension has everything in it bar kitchen which is In existing house. 4 new bedrooms- one un suite, up stairs main bathroom, downstairs toilet, sitting room, utility, office, play room
cslling it a house is probably wrong it’s more so an extension onto an existing house bar a kitchen but it’s a big extension hence why I call it a house
I didn’t pay a builder which probably saved 40-50k and I didn’t put solar panels or air to water in which is a fair saving aswell
I did a lot of labouring myself on it to the block layer, carpenter, putting up plaster boarding etc etc. it didn’t cost me near what others are spending /sq ft.
My neighbour did all the timber work on the house and lots of other bits and pieces and he was very easy to pay
it was pure hardship but I reckon we saved ourselves close on 100k between the major bits and being savvy about building it.
but I never want to build one again, pure hardship to do alongside farming
Being nosey, what did yous do with the house yous had done up on the home place?
My neighbour is 10 years building his house 😂
So you built a house from farm profits in 2yrs surely u have a huge tax bill as to generate that surplus tax it has to be pure profit
Could one do it over a longer period? Is there a time deadline?
Don’t feel bad Kevin, I’ve taken a very modest wage for a long time to build up the farm which in turn impacted us going for a mortgage, we were getting ran through the mill to get a mortgage. in the end we decided to go with out one because we were would have had to spend 50k extra on air to water system, solar panels and mechanical heat recovery to get a high ber so we could get a lower interest rate
Didn’t intend on doing it in 2 years but with the good milk price we put the money into it. We did take 2 personal loans between us aswell
