My wife curb rashed the entire front and back left wheel while parking recently. Anyone recommend somewhere that can touch it up? It's mostly a bunch of smaller scratches around the entire wheel and one bigger/deeper one on the back.
Edit: in and around Dublin that is
Wait for her to get the other side and do all four at once😁
This, I see so many people looking to fix some curb rash straight away, whats the point? I will do mine before i sell or when they get really bad, as there is a very strong chance they will get further damage. Hardly worth loosing sleep or 500 quid over a scuff on an alloy.
DB Autobody in Walkinstown done 2 of my wheels last year. Think is was €120 for the 2.
That is a great price tbf. Although if the car is in and out of towns and multi stories - probability of a repeat instance if fairly high, leaving it a few months (or waiting for two of them!) makes sense.
Agree. I got them done as some thick messed up the edges while replacing rear tyres. It annoyed me every time I looked at them. They are also the grey performance wheels so you notice every mark in them and they were 100% spotless so I had to get them done.
I ended up getting free tyre fitting and free alignment out of it from the tyre shop so everybody happy at the end of the day 😀
every Model 3 on Irish roads has one (left hand side) powered strut
Except of course all the OG Model 3’s that don’t have power struts..
I think the power strut only came out with the late 2020/early 2021 refresh.
Yes, I forgot about the Freemont builds, have a tendency to ignore US builds, I waited until China builds as I wouldn't buy anything from Freemont
I blame my wife also ;)
Maybe should of bought her this for Christmas.
There are other similar products around also reviewed on Youtube
Went with Wheel clinic bray, quoted 180€ per wheel and will repair it next week. Annoying but I can't live with how ugly the damage is.
South side / south Dublin pricing that!
What wheels do you have?
Standard 18" with the aero caps. Price seems fair enough to me, as mentioned the entire length of the wheel all the way around is scratched with various depths, not even sure how she managed that without noticing
Get yourself some replacement wheel covers which protect the rim. The standard aero wheel caps expose the rim to kerbing. I got these ones for less than the price you are paying for a single rim repair.
I have had the new covers kerbed, but didn't care, as replacements are cheap.
Any recommendations for car insurance? With AIG but they shafted me when I got the Tesla.
Supervalu, axa, evinsurance
A lot of the owners are insured through 123.ie (including myself on the Tesla and an older BMW).
I find them very easy to deal with via their online portal.
the only reason why an insurer would go cold on a car after a few years of actuarial data is that the data points to the total value of all claims being expensive versus the total premiums.
Tesla account for about 6,500 vehicles from 2.5m national fleet, but they have a substantial average insurance value.
we all know people with expensive repair costs on teslas.
so - they’ve a high value, are very powerful, and have high repair costs.
The actuarial data literally writes itself.
Hello Everyone, it's been a long time since i posted in a Model 3 thread.
It's coming up to the 4 year anniversary and i wanted to check if anyone has any tips / experience in getting the NCT done?
From a Google search i see that they've failed for not having the jack pucks in the car and for the brake discs having some rust on them.
There isn't enough hard braking i could do to get those discs looking super shiny, they'll still have some signs of rust on them so was wondering how common this NCT failure is?
not having the jack pucks in the car
i don’t think that’s a fail. I don’t think the car even has them. Where did you read that?
brake discs having some rust on them
some safe, aggressive braking on a straight stretch of road will easily solve that.
The car doesn't come with jack pucks but i think a lot of us bought them? Found that reason here https://www.facebook.com/groups/IEVOA/posts/3541517229422873/
I did some hard braking earlier but i'm not going to get them looking super shiny. It will still look like there's uneven contact between the disc and the brake. I brought this up with Tesla 2 years ago. Went up to Dublin for a service. They cleaned and serviced the brake calipers and gave an excuse for the uneven contact.
This is what i'm talking about (worse looking one)
I once went to look at a car that had just passed the NCT. (standard car, non electric) And I do not know how it passed the NCT as the disc brakes were worse than yours and even had a lip of where the pad wasn't contacting the disc up the top.
This morning the car was frozen solid and had a job to open the car with the handle, is there any backup system for when it's freezing?
Boil the kettle for a while till it luke warm. Doesn't have to be boiling and pour it on the door handle to loosen it up and around the frame if it's still stuck.
Use the app to open the door
Bingo, forgot about the app
If the windows were frozen solid would this have an impact?
During very cold temps, the windows are don't go as high in the front doors to prevent sticking.
I read somewhere earlier (can't find it now) that they can't test the brakes to the same extent as an ICE vehicle because of regen braking so they've placed a greater emphasis on the visual inspection part of the brake discs for EVs and they ignore the fact that most of the EV braking is regen so there's less contact between brake and disc.
I'll go for a few longer drives and use some brake disc cleaner to see how well i can clean then up.
Give the thick end of the handle a firm bump with the side of a fist and it will break the ice that’s holding the door… works a charm.
Its actually in the manual.
