Has he a good few to go together??
A lorry load or near enough.
They always offer more for a big lot. Its hard to get a lorry load together particularly for a small finisher like me.
Join up with another farmer and deal together.
This guy has big numbers. For a 'farmer'. Would kill over 200 a year. Maybe 300. Very good operator. Splits the cattle into various groups for pens for finishing. Its the same guy who I was on about pre Christmas.
Did you get an extra boost on base price?
Fair play 👍🏽
Anyone killing bulls or have a price for them?
Very few bulls finishing, I'm told. In times of scarcity the u-16 month mirror the bullock price ..just giving you a barometer
End of January for me
5.05 base for steers next week nn Angus or Herefords included am I selling too cheap ?
Lorry load of lim/sim/mox all dairy cross all o grade
Neighbour says agent called with him to look for bulls an offered him 5.20 ( of the grid or flat price or wat ever its called.....all around 20 months)he said no but would go with 20 bulls for 5.30 then agent says no...... i never heard since if they dealt or not
The big problem is they play around with all these supposed bonuses and they don't want to increase the official base quotes and its very easy to take away your bonus by cutting your grades at the end of the day all that matters is the actual paid price per kilo
I sent a few on and off to Shaney over the last few years and always felt ok with them, but I sent a cow and heifer before Christmas I was delighted with the heifer (805kg 2440)I was disappointed with the cow (780kg 1770) I sold her comrade who wasn’t fit the following week in the mart at 720 kg and 1960.
Dropped a couple of heifers to factory today. Usually drop em other days of the week.
You'd be forgiven for thinking there was a price pull for next week, there was so many cattle on site. Soft sellers like myself or Maybe others had next week's price secured today.
This picture was taken last weekend, Frx been getting 5kg of finisher ration for the last 5 weeks, would he be fit for the factory early February, and anyone take a guess at his current fat score, the white Friesians seems harder to get a fat cover on. Thanks
2 or 2.5
He definitely a 3 by the look at those ribs but would like to see more of him.
Thanks lads that gives me a fair idea that he, and a few more, can head to the factory shortly, not going to grow any bigger with jersey in them
I’d say more like a 2
I agree probably a 3 would like to see the rear of him to be sure. Seems to have flesh
He seems to have flesh on the inverted V on the bottom front of back leg.
I wouldn’t chance him yet. At least another months feeding needed. Doesn’t look at all covered round the tail.
He could also move up a grade coming from a 2= to a 3-.
Beet.
This is him from the rear
Needs at least 6 weeks feeding. Key is look for the trailhead to be sunk in fat. 2 lumps each side of the tail head. That's the first place to look, then his ball sac and the cod ( between his front legs)
Up the meal to 6-7kg/day and split between 2 feeds
Hung 2 20month R grade heifers with Larry on Friday, base was €5 and the payout was €5.40 and €5.46 with his sustainability scheme. 53.5%killout
What type of a price should one be expecting for 30 fresian bullocks, all overage
Yep, just came into finish very quick. Aubrac crosses.
Anything in the 4.80-5 range for flat depending on the mix of os and ps
