I drink cans of Guinness "raw" direct from the can. I've been told I'm "some scumbag".

Does anybody else do this?

I do enjoy a pint of stout in the pub. In fact it's the only thing I drink in the pubs.

But with the cans, it doesn't really make a difference. It tastes the same coming from the can or sloshing around in a pint glass looking like crusty sea foam.

Does anybody else drink it raw from the can?

Not a scumbag thing to do but pretty disgusting. Guinness needs to be poured properly. I know my stouts and I don't buy into all the nonsense around Guinness such as a two part pour etc or anything that tool "Guinness Guru" waffles on about.But straight from a can must be vile. well, when the can is opened the air pressure causes the wee plastic widget to pop releasing nitrogen which gives it the creaminess that mimics a pub pint, by pouring it you're getting it well mixed - when it all settles you get what is an ok pint. If you just let it settle in the can, the nitrogen pop doesn't get well mixed, the liquid isn't agitated and you just have a rather sad, flat, damp squib on your hands.

The thing is it doesn't really settle in a can. It's almost completely flat until you pour it, I've had it straight from a can when out camping before and it just tastes rotten. Remember the can is just a storage device! Besides, would ya really wanna hear the sound of the widget clunking around all night. I don't know why anyone would willingly drink it straight from a can. Funnily enough its different from stout bottles which should be drank from the bottle but that stuffs awful muck.

Marketing, pint of plain was always a two part pour but when nitrogen was added to Guinness in the 50's or 60's it meant it could be poured in one go but the regular old pint men at the time didn't like that so it went back to a two part pour. It makes absolutely zero difference to the look or taste of Guinness but Diageo make pubs pour it like that due to marketing. Anyone who tells you it tastes differently in one pour is talking bollix.

You dump the can head first into bottom of pint glass. As you lift the can up the Guinness escapes into the glass easily. Job done.

Pouring slowly with glass at an angle makes fook all difference to a widget can pint in my experience.

If the nitrogen is released from the bottom of the can and floats the to the top, how is it not well mixed? It is literally going through the entire can, top to bottom?

To each their own, but what I would say is you're missing the point of what is in all fairness a very good product (Murphy's draught cans are much the same). A simple 45-degree pour into a pint glass gives you a perfect, creamy pint with a beautiful head every time, after only a two-minute settle or so.

Yes, the can just needs to be upside down so the widget gives the head more froth.

I hope the OP is cleaning his can tops. These can be stored outside and are not always clean. Even though I use a glass I still clean the top of the can.

I remember the days when you could only get Guinness in a bottle. It was absolutely disgusting. Looked like coca cola when poured. My old man was a Guinness drinker and he couldn't stomach it either. Then they started selling syringes with the bottles so people could give their pint a head. That was just weird.

These days, a poured can of Guinness is just as good as the pint down the local, regardless of what some people would have you believe.
