And they never considered that the baby found in the same county might be more then just an amazing coincidence?
In my opinion that 2.5 million settlement is only a tiny % of what they should have received and deserved.

I had thought that too but if the baby was taken off the parents right after birth to be given up for adoption, than where was he for the few days he had lived without people being aware of his existence? The manner in which he was killed suggests someone in a complete frenzy or just sheer hatred and anger at his birth, not somebody who had a few days to think about what to do with him, but that’s just my own thoughts on it. To be honest none of it really makes sense.
I do hope there will be some closure brought to it, and poor Baby John can finally rest and get his identity.
They may have had "no hand or part" in the actual murder of their child, but they most likely played a part in the " tragic events" that followed for Joanne Hayes and her family over the next 20 years.
While they haven't actually denied they are the parents of Baby John, neither have they admitted it.

He brazenly makes play of the fact that his clients were not contacted during earlier investigations. What an inverted sense of responsibility!
He complains that the Garda search "ransacked" their house. Of course, the parents' could have avoided all that if they came clean.
The DPP should take this as an attempt to pre-empt prosecution by poisoning the well of public opinion.

He's one of those people who will always have a giant asterisk after their name. I read his obituary, which mentioned his work in stopping the serial killers Evans and Shaw. Most people won't remember him for that, or other cases he was involved in. The Kerry Babies case will remain his "that one song" and not for good reasons. I'm not sure which is more disturbing; his behaviour at the time of the Kerry babies case or his stubborn refusal to change his position despite it being utterly discredited. That statement he put out re. the DNA is the most disingenuous, sour thing you could read. I'm sure he has family who'll miss him but many other people will struggle to be so generous.
Let he amongst ye without sin cast the first stone. Shame on you all.

I've often wondered if O'Carroll knew Baby John's family, a Garda family apparently.
If the sin is to beat confessions out of an innocent family, blame a vulnerable grieving woman and continue a campaign of blaming until science proves you to be the lying bully you are, all the while allowing the real murderer to go unpunished, then yes, I am without sin!

He tormented a family and when proven wrong refused to apologise, instead pouting like a spoilt child. Unbecoming behaviour in any adult but particularly so in one with the power he had behind him.

As an individual he was corrupt and criminal, the type that the Guards would view as at the more severe end of the spectrum if he was in organized crime, that he was allowed in the force was laughable and deeply immoral.
