BMW 730D. 2007 model, so I think most of the issues were ironed out at this stage? 12 months NCT and can be got for €5,000 with some haggling. Arse has probably fallen out of the market for these so could be got for lower than €5K. It doesn't have every extra as the ad claims, but still a nice enough bus. Nice colours either way.
A nicer place to sit is the Jaguar IMO. Plenty if Insta filter used here, but it seems nice. Newish tyres, so brand bought will give an idea of how well it was looked after. Decent NCT and a few weeks tax make it about €3k in real terms with some haggling.
2004 XJ6, 3.0 petrol. 08/23 €3,500
It took me a while to get to this point, but the 460 is for sale with a fresh years test. Black interior, and for a boardsie it'll be 5k on the nose. DoneDeal this evening for €5850 but I'd rather she went to somebody here
And she's gone, first fella rang me within 5 minutes and just left me here
Well wear to the new owner i always had a soft spot for that model
Low mileage low owner S Class with a few months NCT remaining.

Looks lovely. Seller could extend the NCT and hasn't.
This thread has been dead for some time due to lack of value in the luxobarge market but this looks half decent in today's market:
ex PSV LS430 with LPG conversion asking €3750 but open to offers, short NCT until 03/24:
Nice, it only passed the NCT 2 months ago so should pass again. Would be wise to get it booked in around January and get a 15 month test.
My old car back up with €3,500 tacked on after a year

I wouldn’t feel too bad about it, they never sell at those prices.
This one is asking €5k and hasn’t been to an NCT centre in 5 years

I viewed that one before I got the other one above, both for sale by the same dealer. I didn't even open the door of it, couldn't deal with the white leather
I sold my 07 Lexus RX to a Ukranian refugee this time last year for about €4,000 with a fresh NCT.
I saw it for sale recently by the same fella, barely any NCT left on it and no tax, and he’s asking €8,000😂
How do people justify the road tax . This is definitely one part of the Irish motoring system that is criminal .
I’d imagine at this end of the market most people just don’t pay it. It makes no sense to spend €5k on a car and €1.8k on tax. I didn’t pay it on my Lexus and its very rare to see any pre 2008 Luxobarge with valid road tax. Me personally I’m happy enough to take the risk.
OK but how do you sell on a car that hasn't been taxed ?
The same way you sell a car that has been taxed
I sold a car to my dog at my parents address, intercepted the post before they saw it. BMW 530i when I was a young lad and couldn't afford the tax so that reset the arrears
All I can see and hear in my head is this.
My kids all learned to dive in an old dependable Toyota. It was in and out of the dogs name four times 🤣
Only one of my dogs has a vaguely human name, must make a mental note to call the next one Sean or Frank or suchlike…
Note the back tax resets each time a car changes owner. You can also declare a car off the road if not being used and then tax it immediately online for a minimum of 3 months in seconds before you head off. I declared my second car off the road a lot during covid.
You can declare car off the road as soon as you buy it, particularly if you don't intend driving it and are waiting for nct, change of ownership, insurance etc.
Spotted an immaculate 2007 XJ on my travels yesterday and it reminded me of this thread. Thought it was worth a bump. Anyone interested in getting it going again?
5k limit is too low with car inflation so I looked in the 6-8k range.
Criteria Must have an NCT Motor tax is irrelevant (this is luxury motoring after all) Anything else?
I’ll restart with this tasty XF for €6,250.

A lot of car for the money. Tax 'OK' at €790 versus what an equivalent petrol would be.
I know you said tax should be irrelevant...
We’re still free to mention it of course 🙂
I was surprised at how many barges there were out there when I filtered DoneDeal to 6-8000 and min engine size of 2.5L.
Mint looking GS300. Price cut on this today. €5,500

Does this qualify as luxobarge?
https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/big-price-drop-bmw-325-3-litre/37112537?modal=gallery
No, even the Lexus GS posted above is borderline. Its more Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes S Class, Lexus LS etc.
It would be good to see this thread become active again tho🙂
Ran one of these for five years. Spoiled me for any future car and I still miss it! Even the 'basic' sound system (as in this car) is a joy - 10 speakers incl two sub woofers - I've never heard as good since, even despite having one car with a Bose system. Effortless luxo-motoring. Generally very reliable - watch out for carbon build up on the valves (direct injection) and brake calipers. Basic servicing easy to do - even for an ape like me.
The GS definitely qualifies as a luxobarge IMHO as while it may be a few inches shorter (and I mean few) than the usual, it only came with full luxobarge spec (like the XF above as well) - V6, auto, full leather, all mod cons, etc.
My old 07 Lexus RX was the same. I ran it for 9 months or so. Pretty similar interior to the GS, and same engine etc. It had the Mark Levinson sound system. Still the best sound system I’ve ever had to this day. I honestly preferred that Lexus to my previous Range Rover in almost every way, and the Range Rover cost me 50 grand more😂
