Re my point how they have been so successful I didn't really listen to Nova until PJ and Jim moved across (would have listed to Classic Hits before then). I think the playlist has certainly mellowed out a bit (perhaps that's why I mostly like it!)
PJ doesn't get to play his favourite song which is Michael Bolton's 'How can we be lovers' like he did on CH....lol....maybe that will change one day!

That's kind of the point, they're not trying to appeal to this sort of perspective. They'd be gone bust years ago if they did.
Last I remembered they were playing a lot of hipster stuff like Imagine Dragons, Twenty One Pilots and Of Monsters and Men. Not rock by any stretch.
My Guess is that PJ and Jim in the morning is a success (Compared to last breakfast show anyway, its a better fit for station ) and they're just holding on to the audience throughout the day
A lot of it I wouldn't even call rock.
They play good music, most of which is recognisable to a wide audience.
This playlist is pretty standard rock fare, and while this is a cardinal sin in the eyes of a tiny number of internet posters, it's exactly what most people want to hear.
No great secret really.

They had behind the scenes changes some time back with Dave Kelly and Liam Thompson coming in to consult/program both Nova and Classic Hits.
Theyre both vastly experienced radio programmers and I’d guess they’ve been working away in the background.
Genuine question, whilst the play list is some what repetitive/questionable what is the secret to Novas success of late?
It doesn't really have high profile presenters (maybe PJ ?!?)...

He is still listed on the schedule on the Nova website as hosting the 3-7pm drivetime slot.

Simple Minds are a good band , Simply Red just makes me want to scream abuse at the radio , awful awful awful cod soul dirge.

Why do I get the impression that Nova and Classic Hits are getting their FM feed from a 96 kbps digital source? Both channels sound flat and quite frankly dreadful compared to Sunshine, Lyric and RTE Radio 1.
