If a former railway line is being re-built, why wouldn't the stations be re-built also?
If we are serious about reducing CO2 emissions, and encouraging modal shift, it would be madness to not have pax traffic.
As of now, the plan is to prepare the line for use as a freight line. So no plans for stations in either their current or alternative locations, or passengers. And no plan or even mention of the route diverging from its existing alignment. Unless of course you live inside Brian Leddin's head.
I suppose it could be to with populations along the route, and "trip generators" , plus its a single line which limits its carrying capacity
Hopefully though there will be scope to reopen effective passenger rail ,
The safety and signalling requirements for freight are much lower than passenger. If you run on a basic of train staff you don't need any signalling at all.
The current funding covers just track and infrastructure, no signalling, no automated level crossings etc. You can run freight in this way, train guard jumps out does the level crossing gates and re-boards
A single passenger station could cost 4-5 million, double that if it has two platforms
If the Adare golf hooley goes ahead, how inexpensively could a temp platform be done without triggering excessive amounts of spend? Say a single platform able to take a full Mark 4 set or 9x22
Looks like they're adapting their design to get around an appeal
No chance, the CRR would have a field day
Would need full signalling
Talk of a greenway parallel to the line. And possibility of a passenger service for the Ryder Cup
Even if only 1 train capable of being on the line ?
All passenger movements must be fully signalled.
Afternoon all,
I visited the Foynes Line rebuilding in Co. Limerick and got photos from between Ballingrane and Patrickswell showing the latest progress on the work to reopen the railway for Freight to Foynes Port.

I don't believe that these recently published videos by the redoubtable DroneHawk (Update 4 and update 5) have been listed here previously. They give a clear idea of the extent of the work completed to date.
You can see in the removed bridge sections at Adare and Robertstown that there’s still something going across it. I presume that’s housing the BT fibre duct?
Correct
So the notion of Ryder cup use is complete nonsense then?
It’s possible, I wouldn’t rule anything out, but it would require a follow-on separate investment project to facilitate it.
The current investment project will only facilitate freight trains.
Brian Leddin seems to be the main name touted for the new Limerick Mayor Role in May, will he in that role be able to push the passenger part of this rail project which would also be a Green priority?
The Adare bypass will help traffic around Adare but a passanger rail line even to Adare from city would take a lot of traffic out of the Raheen, Dock Road, West of the city as well .
No he is not the main name touted. He's the only candidate to have so far declared that they're running. He won't beat a FF, FG or SF candidate.
And no, the new Mayor of Limerick will not have the power to push passenger rail to Adare. That would need to come from central government. And as said above is unlikely to happen before 2027.
Amazed there is such a lack of activity her with all the work going on.
Irish Rail blamed for peoples' sh1tty parenting.
THE CHOPPING of trees and hedges by Irish Rail contractors outside people’s homes has led to a spike in vandalism in the area, a residents association has said.

For any new fencing, I hope they use wooden paling instead of that ugly metal fencing with spiky tops (whatever it's called).
Just a small glimpse of what nonsense any infrastructure proposals have to face.
The local quality would use wooden fancing for firewood. Metal fencing (inner and outer with a minefield in between) is yer only man. 😁
Palisade Fencing. The ugliest affront to any rural or urban environment. Shouldn't be allowed beyond the confines of an industrial estate.
Normally I detest it, but I think they'll need to use it bounding this estate to prevent the residents' spawn from accessing the line.
Latest update from DroneHawk
Wasn't there some problem a while back with a homeowner complaining about IE raising the line near a bridge close to their home? Did that get sorted out?
The bridge is being built at the same height as the previous one to avoid the need for planning permission. They hope to jack it up higher later after getting planning permission for the intended height.
What is the freight this line will be carrying? Presumably they can lay ducting to carry signal upgrades in the future for Pax etc?
The expectation is containers, and potentially lead/zinc ore in the future.
Irish Rail Telecoms will either have, or lay, ducting there for commercial purposes I'm sure. There's IRT/BT ducting along railway lines that don't even have track on them (North Kerry) for instance.
interesting, I wasn’t aware that Foynes was a container port, are there connections to the continent or is a case of built it and they will come ?
