Yes you're right - comparing specced up cars though the ID3 and the Born are about the same at around 42k. My Born was 44k in Feb last so reduced 2k in price for the same spec. Quite a few more reductions happening for 2024 - 3.5k off a new Megane e tech, 2k off a new MG4......... so the market is hotting up.
Was bound to happen, I haven't seen the 2024 brochure yet. Wonder what the Koreans will do in response to VW in Europe?
They're the other big EV players, the Japanese and the French not so much.
The Born is also reduced. Listed as 37.5k on the January 2024 brochure.
That's after removing the care pack from the delivery charge.
I don't think the Born will stay at 42k for long. That's id4 price, although I know they're not direct competition for each other.
It is direct competition for id3 though, even if I prefer the Born styling by a long way I can't see it remaining thousands above the price of an id3
The facelift right hand drive model isn't getting the 12" screen for some reason.
Also I wonder about the fix to move the lights switch and increasing the infotainment screen to 12" like the Born - is this done now? You seem to get a lot of extras going from Pro to Pro plus- all for just eur 800? Good value for 38/39k. Mind you if you spec it up a bit you can get up to 42k or so - about the same as the Born.
One thing to remember is that the id.3 will be supplied with an obsolete hardware and a 3.x software which is a dead end and won’t be updated . ID.4 ID.5 and ID.7 are supplied with the new 4.0 software with battery preheating etc.

ID3 Pro Plus 58 kWh battery with Matrix LED headlights is € 37, 928.
ID3 Pro S 77kw battery starts at €42,440 including Matrix LED headlights.
I have solar as well. I think the ,main benefit is using cheap night rate electricity to run the car coupled with batteries to run the house during the day. During the high peak summer months you can of course fill the car with excess electricity from solar although you need to be organised to get the best from it.
Water ingress or heat damage from heated mirrors, more likely water ingress.
Yeah it's common. I've had mine replaced twice. I think the lens in the wee projector shatters and you get that craic.
Think it happens them all after a while. Not sure what causes it.
Noticed this today, where the triangle shapes come from, something damaged?
Set the temperature to Lo to force the heat to turn off, that way you will get airflow coming in without heat zapping the range. Select the windscreen and/or feet vents so cool air isn't in your direction. Set fan speed to 1 or 2 as desired.
Either that or crack a window, or leave the climate on auto which will heat the car at this time of year. I've never seen the range drop by 100km though, I don't need anything higher than 20°C as I use a modest temperature with the heated seat/steering wheel.
Have you considered 2nd hand i.e 2-3 years old?
There has been a substantial drop in 2nd hand prices of EVs in the last 6 months, so much so that in many cases they are now cheaper than the ICE equivalent.
Plenty of VW ID3 , ID4 out there with more to come in the new year.
If you think you will go ahead with this you should apply for the charger grant now. It will half in the new year.
From where to Derry?
Thinking of trading in our non-EV (PCP) and taking an ID3 at 1.9% and no deposit (PCP). €390 per month for the 3 years then the usual PCP options.
56kWh model.
We are not car people so not sure if we should or not. One thing swinging it is we have a fairly new (and big) solar panel system so may as well make use of it. We can get the Zappi quickly enough as well or just use 3 prong until it's installed.
The occasional long drive to Derry (once every 2 months) is the length of our greatest journey.
Should we just go for it?
You say about the fan not using much power. As soon as I turn it on, the range crops around 100kms!
Cabin filter is under the bonnet, couldn't be easier to check/replace one.
The cabin will fog up if you're not bringing fresh air in. You don't have to have AC on, at least have the climate on pointing up towards the windscreen or your feet to allow airflow. It's either that or you crack a window.
The fans use very little power, especially this time of year. AC won't use much power either as it will just be dehumidifying the air, it won't be actively cooling it.
Cabin filter degradation will be dependent on vehicle usage hours and surrounding environment rather than age. That said I’ve never changed one that wasn’t at least 2 years old. Not a big job to take it out and have a look at it though.
Thanks for the suggestion.
The car is only 5 months old though. Hardly needs a cabin filter at this stage?!
Have a look at the cabin/pollen filter. New filter improves air quality and results in less fogged windows.
We're on 3.2.something. Not sure, would have to check.
TBH, the climate seems to work ok. Doesn't take overly long to clear things. Problem is, as soon as we turn it off, it seems to fog up again almost immediately.
Are you on 3.2.1 by any chance? The climate car on my car hasn't worked properly since the dealer update/battery module check. I always leave auto climate with AC on but since the update it seems it's not working properly, according to an online community there's a dealer fix for it. Even the Max AC function barely does anything.
I got CarPro Clarify glass cleaner and two waffle weave towels which make streak free cleaning a piece of cake, so I will be cleaning my windscreen more often now as it's often neglected...
Anyone's windscreen/windows constantly getting fogged up, and any solution for same?
Besides turning on the demister. That I can do!
I don't think the poster indicated they were buying new so potentially looking at the previous Kona which is not only shorter than the ID.3 it's also on a shared ICE platform making it even smaller. My sister brought over two dining chairs for a family dinner one day and I was surprised at how little it could fit.
My first impressions of the car were fine, aside from it still lacking ACC in 231. It was pricey enough too, I believe hers was €42-43k delivered? The base price of a Born at the time was around €40k.
Fairly sure I was replying to @tonbinn 🙄
But sure just you get all grumpy sure.
It's set to automatic. Should I change it to manual?
But is it right? Did you set it?
Changes when it moves countrys. The reason I know its in different countries is when it changes it tells me the speed signs in that country.
