But harsh on him I think. I wouldn’t put any major weighting personally on gestation.
I value docility, easy calving, daughter milk, and confirmation. Hard to get a bull that can tick all boxes but he looks a jack of all trades.
Two straws in last week anyway and 4 more ordered.
They're 2 roy heifers. I didn't bother bulling them in the spring and as the year went I regretted it.
i wouldn’t be bothered using a new bull. Every year the same thing. The new expensive bull comes in. Not many of them take off Id b using something that u could keep a heifer off Sexed Ivor. Cwi. Maybe knell Etc.
By the way, Excel (LM4027), Loyal (LM4184) and Gamin (ZGM) are all still available from Bova AI.
Isn’t his calving difficulty gone a way up?
Yeah it’s gone up to 5% on cows now, if I used him i wouldn’t put him on heifers just a few older cows.
Sure isn’t it always the way, if you don’t put them in calf at 15 months they thrive and grow well piling on the weight and you regret not putting them in calf. If you put them in calf at fifteen months they stop growing straight away and you end up with a stunted wee yoke, then you regret putting them in calf. Calving them at 30 months is generally ideal but i only calve in Spring here so heifers calve at 34-36 months, only a small number of cows here might as well have something nice to look at.
No, afraid not, i just think he’s an ideal bull for heifers, breeds nice calves and they’re very quiet i find. I’ve got mostly bulls off him, got a few heifers but sold them to a neighbour, two of them have had calves and are nice animals.
I had a cow calf to ARDLEA RIGBY ET (LM8622) there earlier. Average to large size heifer calf. A new bull but breeding looks good, Kingbulll X Vantastic X Ramses.
Funny thing though is she was half out but the bag never burst, so her head was still in a full bag of fluid. I burst it straight away when I spotted it. Could she have been in trouble if I never intervened? Cow tends to have small calves normally and never had trouble calving.
Better to be sure than sorry. I have a scissors handy in the calving shed, that caul is a fairly tough membrane to break, as I've discovered in a panic.
Ya, I had to stab mine with a stick a few times to burst.
Throw up pictures of her if ya can. I bought few standard straws of him & even chanced couple of sexed straws too so very interest in how his heifers look.
Anyone know what the process is to correct an error on blue card. A weanling I bought is down as a SIX but he is a Char calf. In fact, i have the AI docket for the calf and he is out of scardoune Mark. Who do i contact to get new card with correct breed? Local DVO?
fill out the ER94b form
Cheers for that lime tree
Anyone see that new red BB sire is gone off new 2024 munster catalogue ? Also from progressive genetics website
He’ll probably be back in a few years at twice the price
happens every year.
New bull is bought to be the next big thing and the seamen quality isn’t there.
nothing messes up seamen quality like an over fed bull but he doesn’t get bought unless he’s pumped full of meal. It’s a catch 22
Jees , a dose isn’t it after all that
Far better bulls about than him anyway
Just looking at progressive web site and see a lot of the young Charolais bulls have serious calving difficulties compared to older bulls.
I have one heifer here off him, the cow was a limo/simm and she calved herself. The calf came brown in colour and really filled out over the past few weeks. The cow however has a twisted leg and the calf has brought that through, which is unfortunate. I would defo use him again but I don’t think I would put him on anything too extreme. The cow I had was an r grade at best
I used him here but she never held. A neighbor out the road uses him. He must be easy enough calved cause this chap wouldn't be hunting any rosettes.
I wouldn’t say disappointing, after seeing he was 14.5% calving difficulty, I was delighted she calved herself and the calf was alive!! She’s a nice quality square calf, I was happy with her!!
Allot to be said for a small early calf with a bit of vigor
i have him on my best Simmental cow , she should be okay fires out big Charolais calves every year , be hoping for a nicely marked heifer
Pure JT (FR8710311268) bull calf, 298 days gestation, 55,5 kg, but born easily. 11 days old.
Fine calf. Here are JT's figures on the Irish system. Docility not great, but very easy calving.
ICBF Animal Search
Hopefully he will grow into a nice animal as we hope to keep him for ourselves. His dam is very docile and overall great cow, so good prospect. Should have a couple more calves by him born this year from commercial cows and one heifer.
