Mass shootings seem to becoming more common outside of the US
So sad, you expect this in the US, but not Europe.
Let me guess: it'll be another angry man enraged that the world doesn't bow down to him and decides to murder a bunch of innocent people in revenge. Like a cancer in every society.
Prague is a lovely city. I had the privilege to visit in around 2008. Hopefully this is an isolated incident and not a sign of things to come in that city. RIP to the victims.
15 deaths now reported :(

The shooter, 24 year old David Kozak, was reported to be "eliminated" by police
Visited myself in Christmas2005.
It will be interesting to see if they have some kind of rational debate on gun laws over there now. Most sane countries do after tragedies like this.
Serbia did earlier this year, thousands of guns handed in during an amnesty after a mass shooting in Belgrade back in May

Seems the killer's father has been found dead too.
Pathetic piece of sh*t to do this to so many innocent people, how many families lives ruined this Christmas
How do such mentally ill people find access to guns.
Where would a normal person even start to look for such a machine gun?
Very sad to see this. I’ve been to Prague three times and it’s a beautiful city and I felt very safe.
This hits close to home. I spent part of my teenage years in Prague and while I haven't been back in quite some time, I know that area of the city very well. I've been to the Rudolfinum, which sits on Jan Palachy Square) many times for concerts and have driven or walked past there more times than I can count, kind of unavoidable if you live in Prague 4 (Krc) and your school is in Prague 6 (Dejvice, later Nebusice). RIP to the victims, and my heart breaks for their families, especially this close to Christmas!
Awful that so many lives have been lost to a lunatic with a gun. Czech gun laws are quite liberal and there is quite a long history. It's the only country in Europe that I can think of off the top of my head that has a constitutional right to bear arms on the books.
There will likely be an amnesty effort similar to the recent Serbian example but, it will be very interesting to see how the Czech govt approaches this. A right wing Govt is now facing a potential existential question. Do they seek to restrict or limit gun ownership? In a country where self defence and concealed carry are quite common? Or do they go down the route of the US right wing and label this as a mental health issue, rather than a firearms proliferation one?
Thoughts are with the victims and their families, no doubt not how anyone expected to enter their Christmas.
I hope so, I lived there for almost 10 years and I was quite shocked by their gun laws. They are well out of step with the rest of Europe. Terrible day.
"right to defend one's own life or life of another person also with arms under conditions stipulated by law".
That's quite a lot of leeway that the Legislators have.
Aren't you one of the most vociferous posters warning about Russian imperialism on this site? and now you want the civilian population of Czechia disarmed while the war is still going on?
A Czech reporter told BBC news that the weapon was a legally held firearm owned by David Kozak, one of many that he owned. The police have not reported anything about the weapon but photographs circling online point to it likely being an AR10 .308
I only read after I posted that, that Czech Republic had very Liberal gun ownership laws.
The Czech Republic must be doing something right, it has more than double the amount of firearms per capita as nanny state Ireland (16.3 vs 7.2 per 100 inhabitants) yet has half the firearm homicide rate (0.1 vs 0,21 per 100k inhabitants). Not as good as Germany though - 32 firearms per 100 and 0.06 firearm homicides per 100k.

Might be less than you think. That refers to the right to defend, not the right to firearms. For example, the condition stipulated may be “if the police are trying to lawfully shoot you does not give you the right to shoot them in self defense”.
There's enough guns in Germany for a third of the population?
Adult population, maybe. Wiki indicates 20 per 100 population.
Quite easy in the Czech republic,
They have fairly liberal firearms laws , there's several firearms stores within minutes of the school
An evil person. I wouldnt be in a hurry over there after this. Didnt realise the gun laws were so aligned to the States. Rip to all.
There was a big increase in ownership after the Russians invaded Ukraine, last year when we were there one CZ shop has a que with about 150 people waiting to purchase guns
The world would be a lot safer if we confined those with serious mental issues to long-term hospitals for treatment. There is no benefit to society for these people living free lives, only danger.
How in the name of fûck does it transpire that a kid can attain or anyone in a civilised society attain a weapon like that ? It’s colossal…
Considering outside the US these mass shootings are still quite rare
'serious mental health issues' is far too vague a term legally to imprison people forever.
What mental health issues and how serious?
By the looks of it was just a semi automatic rifle with a scope, pretty much common all over the world with a few exceptions
The Czech appear to have been following the American system of anything goes, that should change now at least.
Not really,it's nothing like the American culture when it comes to firearms,
