Someone went to a lot of effort to get this into the shops in time for Xmas.
Someone spent 2 minutes prompting an AI and posted bait on social media
Mod Note: Stick to the enviromental impact thread (https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058252347/evs-are-worse-for-the-environment-the-myth/) to discuss that topic, posts moved, after accidently merging the 2
Not exactly anti EV but not very pro EV
Could that ad not be considered a positive just like breakdown assist is not considered a negative?
Probably it is a positive considering it is something EV dedicated. However, I'm amused at the how clueless the person who made the flyer is. The guy is at a non-ESB charger. Surely doesn't need battery empty cover :D Better to do as The Sun and use one of Bjorn's facepalm moments
Christmas stocking filler available 🤣
On the whole negative EV narrative, one that I saw recently I'd not seen before is that the insurance cost of an EV is higher than an equivalent ICE due to the cost of repairs and that cars are being written off more than ICEs because of the difficulty of repair.
Given I've seen ICE's written off after airbags are triggered (and nothing else than broken bumpers), it seems like utter crap to me, my own insurance is less on an ioniq5 than it was on the 10 year old diesel civic it replaced. Anyone had an increase?
Is it really much more expensive to buy an EV than an equivalent diesel? New prices are pretty similar now for many cars. Any specific example of what you're looking at?
At risk of being a contrarian here but maybe the ad is suggesting the flat car has just been dropped off at the charger..crisis over👋👋
indeed - if you have a driveway and can get dirt cheap electricity at night, and no hassle in charging, then they really need to do the sums for overall cost per month of a diesel/ petrol compared to Ev including fuel, maintenance (oil and brakes alone is a few 100 a year on an ICE) and cost of the vehicle- but taking the purchase price on its own is too simple a calculation
I think the EV v ICE price debate is very much a new v old price debate too. If you want a decent range EV you're looking at 2020 or newer. Where you can buy a 10 year old diesel for cheaper.
However, there's big price drops coming for everything so used EVs will be affordable. I know some people are unwilling to take a chance on them though.
I don't see much price difference between a golf and an id3 or a Tiguan and an id4 anymore.
I don't see this as a bad thing, for people without EV experience they might be worried about what happens if they run out of charge. I see this as no different than my insurer giving me the peace of mind that comes with breakdown cover.
No
That could be indeed. Although to me it doesn't suggest this. Anyway I was joking so don't take me too seriously.
What's negative about advertising they have a solution for what could be a common fear?
reminds me of this article in the guardian

RTE dancing the to the "long road" tune again
Notable they now say we are looking for 940,000 EVs on our roads by an un-named date. Previously it was 950,000 by 2030 and before that it was 1m by 2030
The number on the road always struck me as an odd target, target should be a fleet percentage it's a much better measure.
This type of post on FB is becoming more and more common.
I mean, it is FB, so it's a breeding ground of disinformation and full of uneducated and moronic opinions, but it's definitely getting much worse the last few months.
Any post in any way related to EV brings out the dregs of humanity with the same comments over and over again. You'd have to really consider that a large percentage of this is funded.
Edit- board won't allow me to post FB link but it's a post yesterday by Newstalk re their new ID4
Just to counter this 😂
Heard a promo last night for Claire Byrne Show at 10am today.
Doing a piece on EV Buyers regret.
I'm sure there will be a couple of valid points about charging infrastructure and price instability but I must get my anti EV brigade bingo card out for that.
Dealer told me it would do the quoted range... tick
I didn't know range is less at 120 km/h in freezing weather... tick
I did absolutely no research before I bought my car... tick
you forgot the 3k km a day.
Don't forget they don't have a driveway.
And eventually they all catch fire.
... my daily commute to the office is from Cork to Belfast ...
Onw more for the full house folks.
Then someone gets to shout Bingo for Gammon and all the new re-regged users.
I hope it continues and I can pick up an RS Etron GT vorsprung for peanuts (comparatively speaking of course)
