Feels like the right time to start a new thread for next year's gigs.
John Mayer playing the 3Arena on 29 March 2024.
I can find nothing online about Events Proposals for Iveagh 2023. I suspect it’s either embellishment or the deliberate misconstruing of OPW documentation. And aren’t the NIMBYs aware that proposals are suggestions rather than policies. I therefore believe that bluster rather than intellect is at play here. Good news I reckon for gig goers over the next few years.

@delbertgrady get in there quick Foggy Notions have announced Bothy Band Dublin Gigs in April.
That last paragraph is hilarious NIMBY-ism. Even the locals near the Glastonbury site realise there won’t be a fallow year for a while after no events in 2021 and 2022.
I’ve also never heard the phrase used in relation to a city park. The exact same type of people succeeded in restricting gigs and getting the sound turned down at London events in Hyde Park and Victoria Park. Kills the buzz when people yapping ends up being louder than the headliner.
I am quite surprised GIAF, are actually hosting this band, and therefore affirming them, as “okay” along with their Gardai hate incitement.
Have they any other social groups, they want to - take out and take down, or is it just the PSNI & the Gardai
Yep - the wind direction should be interesting though. Some talent.
Shabaka Hutchings has retired from playing the saxophone and music for the forseeable.
It's been a fantastic set of announcements the last two weeks. Janes Addiction, Sunn O, Bothy Band, Patti Smith, Lankum outdoors in June - just need Black Midi, Shabaka Hutchings and dare I say Aphex and my faith in humanity will be restored.
I’d say comedy festival is good for last weekend of July with taste of Dublin being gone. They had reduced the space the comedy festival used this year as appeasement of resident concerns.
Vodafone Comedy Festival still a possibility for July there which is fully off limits I believe? Certainly more than when it's just a gig anyway.
And Collins has “The The” and a few more indie bands to announce
Ah didn’t see that news. That should hopefully make life easier for concerts. Means iveagh garden only partially off limits for July. Not June and July like other years
Bookers have changed for iveagh, some are now singular artists and book Collins barracks series.
Trinity has Paul Weller and Manics/Suede. Looking forward to both those gigs
2 more Trinity gigs to announce hopefully.
Taste of Dublin is moving to Merrion Square in 2024. That might take some pressure off the gigs from the locals.
Thought Iveagh Garden gigs used lean a bit indie orientated. Hoping Trinity or Collins Barracks gigs might have some acts like that. Doesn't seem Kilmaimham will this year or Fairview as much
Yeah true. Wasn't expecting anything this side of new year for ATN so was a surprise. Maybe they nail on headliners first and then have more acts due to be announced in spring.
Nothing official apart from Aiken announcing 3 weekends of shows in July as usual.
the concerts take up the least space out of all the summer events in the park. As it takes over playing field but leaves 50% of the park.
taste of Dublin takes over whole park for a long weekend but closes down park for 2 plus weeks for set up of the food stalls etc.
could see taste of Dublin being restricted in both amount of space they can use and set up/take down time frame.
those “residents” are going to keep trying to get it shut down.
they were claiming that it should have fallow years but they didn’t want opw to consider the pandemic years as fallow for purpose of any calculation.
Has that been resolved now, or is there further threat of organised objections? A lovely venue that I’d hate to see lose its events.
The lack of balance is frustrating. I get the popular appeal of many acts and the need to flog tickets but Iveagh, Galway Arts & the Marquee could at least throw the indie crew a bone or two. These gigs sell also.
They also had forbidden fruit, all together now to announce as well. Busy work of announcements from them. Each a week apart
He had to get a new site for the Marquee so maybe that delayed things but that seemed to have been on the cards for a while. Maybe there was some last minute negotiation around cost of rent or something. He had planned to announce acts at start of November so delays may have been out of his control. Would have expected him to try to capitalise more on pre Christmas demand if he had the choice but all that is speculation.
opw were seeking public opinion on iveagh gardens usage as recently as October so that would of delayed any announcements. Needed clarity as to how many weekends they can use the park etc
He didn't specify musically and with that there is just a ton really, which obviously plays a huge factor in the current state of things.
Musically though hardly worlds apart, voices different stylistically but both playing a form of alt pop that is thematically similar.
Both artists have a key single from same producer/guitarist fella even.
Olivia is echoed by critics to be more rock but to me she isn't rock enough some tracks obviously touch the periphery that's about it.
Can't claim to know anything about their live shows whatsoever.
Has Peter Aiken been asleep till the week before Christmas, very odd that he waited till the week before Christmas to announce so many shows.
Passenger and Glen Hansard announced there. Think Pillow Queens are great and Damo annual fixture alright. Does seem the same acts have done the rounds of various outdoor gigs and festivals so is getting fairly samey though
Meant to have been a proposed all purpose stadium at the maze but got shafted as the DUP objected to GAA, they now up in arms at Casement holding a few football matches next summer now! sure it's all of their own doing!
Windsor Park don't have an outdoor entertainment licence so can't hold gigs there. They'd have to apply to the council and satisfy a lot of crowd safety requirements for it to be approved if an application was made.
I'd be confident enough that the new Casement would get a licence sorted asap once it's built.
Yeah, Damo, Pillow Queens, Christy will all put on good shows and Paloma and Sugababes will have their audience I'm sure but certainly another uninspiring set of announcements to follow the pattern of the last couple of weeks.
