Feels like the right time to start a new thread for next year's gigs.
John Mayer playing the 3Arena on 29 March 2024.
Damo is annual tradition at this point
+ Damien Dempsey + pillow Queens.
Weak announcements, just waiting for coronas for the cherry on the crap cake
Sugababes
Iveagh Gardens
Friday 5th July
Just announced!
Sugababes too
Christy Moore for Iveagh too, 11th July
Often wondered that myself. I presume, with the capacity, it's easier just shoehorning the gigs into boucher with a bigger attendance.
I'm also looking forward to the new stadium to *hopefully attract other artists
Paloma Faith
21st July 2024
wonder who will play, love that venue
Looks like first Iveagh Gardens artists due out soon
Australian Pink Floyd at Olympia and Belfast. 2/3/4 December next year
Bothy Band, NCH 2 dates in April
Sweet
Foggy Notions announcement at 10am
Would be longitude if anything
Has Jack Harlow any Irish dates for 2024 yet, could be a possibility for LATM
Sorry, I hadn’t mean to infer that you thought that. I’m not stating that either you or @Fanirish are accusing the venue of anything. I just worry that anyone online can post some random lies that will gain traction.
Plenty of female talent plays at the venue or at other places they book. All pretty appropriate to the size of the venues. The largest indoor venue here has 1.200 capacity and the two outdoor ones next Summer are 3.5k and 5k. Pearse stadium rarely used and the other sports pitches never. There’s a limit to what acts we can get in the town.
The venue an enormously respected institution here in Galway, with criticism of course, but they get us acts that would usually be beyond the reach of an 80,000 city. There’s also no way that in a student city (circa 35% of the population) a venue would get away with (even alleged) criminal behaviour by a booker without a backlash. If there proves to be any truth to this then I’ll instantaneously hold my hands up but gossip/libel from 4/5 years ago with nothing further since implies that this can be ignored.
.
I never said there was a boycott I said the only thing that looked odd was the lack of big name female comedians, I happen to think the boycott story is also bullshit and the lack of big name female talent is more likely down to mcd and aiken wanting them to sell out shows in dublin first and foremost
Musically there isn't. And their live shows aren't remotely alike either
Out of interest how come Windsor Park is not used for concerts ?
Won't mention the war but if that Stadium is actually built it could make great revenue from concerts etc
There is tickets for all those gigs available.
The Smashing Pumpkins are package crap...but still they won't be conforming to regular tickets at this stage.
Not many acts sell out the Boucher fields.
The Galway Comedy fest took place seven weeks ago and amongst others the venue booked Emma Doran, Theresa Cahill, the Dirty Circus, Deirdre O’Kane, Taran O’Sullivan, Sinéad Culbert, Jessica Collins, Sharon Mannion, Sinéad Quinlan, Mama na Obrotach, Enya Martin, Serena Terry, Elena Gabrielle and Sally-Anne Hayward.
There’s no boycott. It’s horsesh@t.
MCD advertising 'sold out gigs', imagine could be a few ticket drops if anyone is still looking
The only thing that stands out is a lack of female stand up comedians but looking at other venues outside of Dublin there is not many of them either
Spurious and malicious gossip I believe, not by you but by those with a grievance against the venue. This month alone they’ve put on Lankum, Glen Hansard, NewDad, Mick Flannery, BellX1, Mik Pyro, Nell Mescal, Chasing Abbey, The Mary Wallopers, Brigid Mae Power, The Love Buzz, The Academic, John Francis Flynn, Hermitage Green and several others.
If there’s a boycott by Irish acts going on it’s not a particularly effective one. Can you name any acts who shun the place?
Id imagine Monday and Tuesday will be the last days for gig announcements until the new year
It’s not a hoax or gossip. Given Ireland’s libel laws and litigious nature of people it has not been covered in newspapers etc but twitter threads are accurate about boycott situation.
I checked. Random gossip online and nothing consequential. The venue also books GIAF, The Loft, Leisureland, The Black Box and elsewhere. I struggle to think of Irish bands who’ve not played in one or other of these venues in the six years since I returned to live here. You have the names of any of those artists?
I’d thus conclude that it’s either a hoax or envious gossip.
yeah 100%. it’s well known since 2019 at least, been a talking point for years. A quick twitter search of the “venue name boycott” will throw you a bunch of threads about it. Know of at least half a dozen Irish acts who boycott anything to do with that venue.
First I’ve heard of this. Nothing locally about any boycott and none of the venues are short of acts. Are you quite sure about this?
Bit of a stretch to act like there isn't a hint of crossover there in fairness.
