Feels like the right time to start a new thread for next year's gigs.
John Mayer playing the 3Arena on 29 March 2024.
...
Olivia Rodrigo isn't anything like Tate McRae but I doubt Tate would bother playing Cork
Billy ocean would do well to sell out vicar st. Nevermind 3,500 in galway
Since the festival’s first season in 2005, it has attracted big names, including Elton John, Lady Gaga, Bob Dylan and Pink, and Aiken said international acts at next summer's Live at the Marquee will be announced at the beginning of February. Aiken remained tight-lipped on those acts, but hinted: "We’ve got one or two that will surprise everybody in February."
I am trying to think who likely will be added maybe Lyra (Irish artist) Tate McRae (similar sound to Olivia Rodrigo and Mimi Webb) maybe males like Noah Kahan or Sam Ryder
Billy Ocean who is supporting Tom Jones in Dublin perhaps for LATM solo gig
Me neither- but people easily fooled
Not a fan of their stichk
Not sure why everyone’s so down on GiAF - kneecap will be taking the stage to incite hatred against Gardaí so can’t get much edgier
I assume Foggy Notions wouldn't be ones to promote Masters of Reality. They're playing London in April, gig here be lovely.
I blame the Kardashians and Love Island for the fake lips, arses and tangoed look
Those kind of slots would be a step backwards for Fontaines DC. And I'd hate to see them in the 3Arena as it would be messy and too obvious. If they were to do a gig next year Kilmainham would be the natural fit.
Inhaler are a band who have bigger ambitions than that. They'll do some supports over the next year or two (hopefully support Pearl Jam) but its about keeping demand high for them now after selling out 3 Arena.
Fontaines didn't spend a year away to play either of them either.
Pretty sure Inhaler said that their recent 3 arena show would be there last Irish show for next year or more.
I’m sure Fontaines 2024 Irish dates will be made known sooner rather than later.
The international acts for LATM are being announced in early February fyi
Not only **** taste in music, but alot of other things too.
Haircuts for example, why do so many young men and indeed middle aged men have haircuts like the young offenders ?
Why are so many women caked in makeup and covered in horrible fake tan resembling an Oompa Loompa ?
Why couldn't GIAF (or LATM for that matter) try for the likes of Inhaler or Fontaines DC if they were so insistent on booking Irish acts? Would be better booking imo.
It's unbelievably frustrating with the Live at the Marquee announcements on the whole. But as mentioned the vast majority of decent international acts will not sell out. Throw the 2johnnies in there, The Coronas, Christy, Gavin James and God forbid Jenny Greene... tickets sell like hotcakes.
The population is there.... its just clear the vast majority have **** taste in music.
Artists/comedians boycotting a certain Galway venue is another factor that may be effecting it.
No Pavement tickets were available on the day and it was announced locally as sold out but it seemed slightly below capacity so I believe you’re right.
The thing about July gigs is that there’s effectively no local competition on the west coast for gigs of that size so it’s rare for an act not to sell out. The catchment area is quite large for GIAF, effectively Limerick to Sligo in terms of people who’ll travel for Big Top gigs.
The festival also makes a large profit on the stage stuff (Druid O’Casey and Bedbound huge successes this year) which can offset some smaller losses elsewhere but clearly not an empty Big Top. They cannot outbid other events as you correctly state but they often grab artists playing elsewhere around that time (particularly Iveagh Gardens) and I’m pretty sure the Dublin venue (if it proceeds in 2024) ain’t putting on such a mass of garbage.
from what I understand it’s nominal funding from sponsorship and it needs every show to a unequivocal sell out. The pavement show wasn’t sold out, not miles off sell out though. But profit on those shows is usually last 5% of sales.
As mentioned earlier this week the festival is competing with probably 50 other festivals or summer concert series on in the same timeframe. Agents/artists follow the money
Acid Mothers Temple and Sunn o))). Now that's what i call quality booking.
Turns out that AMT are on the night after Godflesh. A great weekend to look forward to in May.
I'd like to believe it's not Band of Horses.
Ha! You're like Santa Claus, Fanirish! Cool. I've been very good this year, I deserve nice ****. They must have been absolute assholes down in Cork this year, looking at that Marquee line up!
News soon on one of those
Eight dates announced for Galway Arts and they range from poor to horrendous. Similar to the Marquee there’ll undoubtedly be a decent act or two but the premier arts festival in the country shouldn’t be settling for such a bland lineup. We’re that to be replicated with the theatre, instillations, street art and exhibitions it’d make the fortnight an entire waste of time.
In the past five years it has taken place we’ve had Brian Wilson doing Pet Sounds, Caribou, Flaming Lips (twice), Pixies, Burt Bacharach, Robert Plant, Orbital, Pavement and a few other goodies. They all sold out.
I’m not greedy. The fest needs to sell tickets and a balance between bland commercial acts and the more challenging brethren is required. That balance, however, is disappearing.
Sunn in the NCH. I'm surprised that doesnt need planning permission.
Saw them in the Button Factory and was physically pushed back by the noise.
An incredible experience.
Will be interesting how the accoustics of the NCH work with it.
I don't know, are they??
Are La Femme playing here next year?
Ben Elton has shows up for Ulster Hall and Olympia.
Saw him in the Olympia in the late 80's - probably the best comedy gig I was ever at (a close run thing with Billy around the same era).
Hopefully time hasn't dimmed his wit!

Fair enough. Without googling current circumstances, id love to see Les Savy Fav over, La Femme, Band of Horses, you know, I'm not looking for behemoths, just interesting stuff that doesn't play here very often.
