Feels like the right time to start a new thread for next year's gigs.
John Mayer playing the 3Arena on 29 March 2024.
Proliferation of festivals and outdoor summer shows across europe in last decade plus haven’t helped. More promoters competing for those big acts that can move things in the thousands
Aiken has to be embarrassed by that lineup. It's beyond awful. I think most most them played this year too, which makes it even worse.
Yes, since Covid, touring seems to be based around the summer months.
More acts are playing stadiums and outdoor shows that ever before.
In the past, touring was based around arena and indoor tours and acts would add summer shows afterwards.
Depeche Mode done that in reverse played Malahide Castle this summer and playing 3Arena in February 24
For the massive acts with production and staging expectations and costs outdoor summer shows are the only viable option for many.
Especially legacy acts with families who would rather do one massive summer show in major cities than multiple arena shows.
Those combo tours are getting more popular now as way to ensure summer shows do well. Green day tour etc.
traditional arena show one year, festival the next or vice versa does happen for alot though.
Oh wow, that's a shocker of a list. As Eod said, you'd leave Mick and Damo out of the weeping and gnashing of teeth but Jesus.....
If Umack is on board that gives me optimism. Timo's tastes are more attuned to mine than Leagues' are.
Ear plugs needed
Now that should be excellent.
NCH, really? Is the old dear up to the volume levels?
Would have thougth a more suitable venue would be Vicar st or Leitrim.
NCH sound is very good imo. Oneohtrix point never sounded great last year in the main room.
only seats I avoid in nch are the first few rows as awkward view
Jess Glynne and Passenger added to GIAF - a real step down from Pavement
SunnO the same night as the Mary Chain. Bollocks! It's the Reids for me anyway.
Mary chain will be back quick enough. Sunn o))) won’t be
Mary Chain are my joint all-time favourite. Sunn o are not. I've seen Sunn o a few times anyway. Just annnoying is all.
So Sunn o were today's Foggy Notions announcement? Shame. I was hoping for something more up my street. They've sucked me in with their Patti announcement and the 'more AMAZEBALLS announcements on the way!!!!' shtick. I'll never learn.
Well sunn o))) haven’t played ireland in 6 or 7 years at this point I think.
Another one
No, absolutely. I'm being completely selfish there, no doubt. Their brief is interesting and imaginative bookings, not keeping me happy. More's the pity.
Well who do you want to see play here so?
Well no, I'm not going to play that game with you, I know you'll have very definite reasons why they're not possible. I'm regularly not familiar with acts that Foggy Notions announce but many are interesting when I dig in to them. Sunn o are just not for me. I think I've made clear that my disappointment was on a personal level, I'm not dissing the promoters, who are doing a sterling job.
I’m actually just curious when people lament that bookings aren’t to their likings who is on their wishlist for ireland.
Fair enough. Without googling current circumstances, id love to see Les Savy Fav over, La Femme, Band of Horses, you know, I'm not looking for behemoths, just interesting stuff that doesn't play here very often.
Ben Elton has shows up for Ulster Hall and Olympia.
Saw him in the Olympia in the late 80's - probably the best comedy gig I was ever at (a close run thing with Billy around the same era).
Hopefully time hasn't dimmed his wit!

Are La Femme playing here next year?
I don't know, are they??
Sunn in the NCH. I'm surprised that doesnt need planning permission.
Saw them in the Button Factory and was physically pushed back by the noise.
An incredible experience.
Will be interesting how the accoustics of the NCH work with it.
Eight dates announced for Galway Arts and they range from poor to horrendous. Similar to the Marquee there’ll undoubtedly be a decent act or two but the premier arts festival in the country shouldn’t be settling for such a bland lineup. We’re that to be replicated with the theatre, instillations, street art and exhibitions it’d make the fortnight an entire waste of time.
In the past five years it has taken place we’ve had Brian Wilson doing Pet Sounds, Caribou, Flaming Lips (twice), Pixies, Burt Bacharach, Robert Plant, Orbital, Pavement and a few other goodies. They all sold out.
I’m not greedy. The fest needs to sell tickets and a balance between bland commercial acts and the more challenging brethren is required. That balance, however, is disappearing.
News soon on one of those
Ha! You're like Santa Claus, Fanirish! Cool. I've been very good this year, I deserve nice ****. They must have been absolute assholes down in Cork this year, looking at that Marquee line up!
