Lots of criminals who committed horrific crimes walking around Dublin with suspended sentences. And they lock this guy up indefinitely, what a joke of a system.

Because posts like this have been coming up every few pages since the thread started and its kind of getting silly now. The only way you could not know is by choice.

He's being held in contempt of court, until he purges it. The same as everyone else who commits contempt of court.

He chose to be locked up rather than purge his contempt just as you chose to ignore this fact rather than draw an honest conclusion from the events reported.
That's rubbish. They wanted to make an example out of him and his family. The garda throwing his sister on the ground outside the court was another example. This could of been handled early on before it got to this stage. The principal did a poor job and the courts did a poor job. There is a conflict that relgions have with LGBTQ, that dosnt matchup with the state. If he was a Muslim that difference would of been acknowledged straight away and a resolution would of been found. But because he was Christian, he was thrown under the bus.
Enoch from day one wanted a conflict with the state. He publicly harassed a principal and then upon suspension over this, he proceeded to disrupt the operation of the school on a daily basis. Them he refused to follow a court order which has resulted in his prison stay. So nope, wouldn't be okay for any religion to be pulling this.
Are you suggesting that if, when all this carry-on started, Burke had gone to his Principal and quietly discussed his objections in a reasonable manner he would still have been thrown in jail? Just because he had issues with LGBTQ people? And the State was anxious to throw resources into putting the family in jail? So why are the rest of the family still at large, surely they have created enough disorder in various courts to have an excellent excuse to lock them up?
And who is the 'they' that wanted to make an example out of him and his family? Anyone in authority? The first 'they' in that case was the Principal, why would the Principal want to make an example of the Burke family? Was it because the family invaded a school meeting shouting and chanting and making complete fools of themselves? Rude and ignorant fools at that. But that was after the Principal was initially verbally abused by Burke, why did the Principal initially take against the family?
Enoch Burke was a respected and competent teacher prior to all this, apparently his LBGTQ views were not a problem for the school authorities, he apparently had not objected to the previous case of a student requesting to be known by a different name and gender, so what suddenly inspired the Principal to pick on him? Maybe the Principal got instructions from the courts and the police and set the whole thing up?
The whole thing is a bit of a mystery, perhaps you could be more specific about how it happened?

Again, this boils down to choices. Some religion choose to make their peace with the LGBTQ, sone choose to continue living in the dark ages. The State doesn't get involved as long as no one chooses to break the law.
There are plenty of Muslims - and Jews and Athiests for that matter - in jail for choosing to break the law, but you already know this and chose to ignore it too.

This is what happens, just state that it’s because of religious persecution. Ignore the facts. It will keep happening because being a victim is easier than being in the wrong and certainly easier to peddle. We can see it happen in America with Trump were he says it’s political persecution when it’s just consequences of actions. His own actions. He doesn’t have to believe it he just has to say it.
You're entitled to your opinion but the handy thing about the Law is: everything tends to be in black and white. The sister wasn't "thrown" anywhere, she refused to leave the court having refused to back down from causing chaos during proceedings - you're trying to spin a story here.
You can peddle this conspiratorial angle if you want but the facts are there to be seen. Burke has refused to comply by any legal direction and refused to purge his contempt. This is why he's in jail ATM - and for a second time at that, having shown no ability to learn. Ignoring a court order or refusing to purge your contempt? This is what happens.

Sure we could all do that if we want; ignore the courts if we don't like the results. It's just another flavour of the "free man" kinda fluff that tries to dodge tax payment etc. this sorry case is dragging on but the facts are there.

You are 100% correct.
Enoch COULD have chosen to use the existing , clearly laid out complaints procedure in use in the Department of Education to raise his concerns/objections about the email regarding the request from the Student to be referred to using gender neutral pronouns.
He COULD have pursued the pathway through that process and onwards to the courts (if necessary) all the way to the Supreme Court and beyond potentially.
THAT pathway would have brought a welcome clarity to all on the legal position of where the line exists between the law of the land and "freedom of Religious expression".
However I expect that the clarity it would have brought would probably not have been to Enochs liking.
So , instead of following the mature , sensible LEGAL path, Enoch chose the nuclear option and began by standing up at his employers 250th Anniversary celebrations to shout and disrupt proceedings and followed that up by chasing his boss around the room demanding to be heard.
As a result of those ACTIONS , he was suspended pending a disciplinary hearing as per the rules of his employment.
Now , I don't care what his complaint might have been - He could have been complaining about the brand of tea-bag in the staff room for all that it matters. Doing what he did, where he did it will get anyone suspended from any job anywhere.
Enoch thinks he's special and that the rules don't apply to him so he turned up at school anyway and pretended like it didn't happen and refused to leave when asked by his boss.
EVERYTHING that has happened since is because Enoch Burke is a belligerent zealot.
Nothing that has happened since has anything to do with his religious beliefs no matter how many people try to claim that it is.
It is ENTIRELY down to Enochs refusal to engage with anyone or anything like a normal functioning adult human.
Sorry, but literally everything you wrote there is wrong. Every single action the Burkes took was their own choice. Nobody made a show of them except themselves. It's telling that Enoch feels it's ok as an educator to single out and victimise one student, thinks he can bully and harangue his principal, scream and shout at a judge and defy court orders and injunctions.
The whole 'if he was a muslim, he'd be grand' is so obtuse and wrong it's not even worthy of reply, except to say that nobody is above the law. For a family with extensive legal training, they haven't quite grasped that yet.
