What about outwintering pads jersey cows high stocking rates these were all teagasc ideas
So were cubicle sheds, and holsteins, high ebi's, norwigian reds, dairy calves, beef calves, spring calving, autumn calving, high meal, low meal....research and figures on almost everything to allow you tonmake up your own mind on how best to run your own gaff. Amazingly they left you decide that for yourself.
Lucky you... I'm farming seven years and I've had seven different advisors. Each one less experienced than the one before. Lads in my group are fairly sick of it at this stage.
Alps as a matter of interest what age is your advisor.....roughly like.
This was going to be my point exactly neighbour said he's had 5 new dairy advisors in two years lad that was doing my bits of schemes and stuff is getting out due to the red tape and liability for any mistake or loss of payments. He can't keep up with the changes
I think our office is trying to get out of doing TAMS applications now because there is too much work in them. They are trying to outsource the job or something
50's.. Working with another lad mid 30's..10/10 as well.
If you're in a group and feel badly served, arrange a meeting with someone up the line (area manager eg) and insist on satisfaction.
Could the group you are in be holding you back. Would you ask teagasc to refer you to a non local/non area specific group?
These groups can be more challenging, easier to discuss private business and often hold better facilitators and for longer.
I'll let him know I'm not one for groups at the moment
Its an unthankfull job listening to dairy farmers whinging ud want to be well paid.Theres handier jobs out there id rather work in mcdonalds than be a teagasc or private advisor anyway farmers dont listen to advice just plough on
It’s amazing the way you are so sure that Dairy Farmers are such god awful pricks……
All dairy farmers….
Apart from yourself and “The Woman” of course.
I can see lads quoting him but i put him on ignore a month ago
Would recomend
Look everyone is sick of dairy farmers the government wants to put out of buisness the latest vat non egible items prove this.Other farmersvhate us for driving land rents. As saidv above advisors dont want to advise us .Were a minority in the country among farmers our votes wont be missef
Does be gas how a random conversation with the milk tanker driver, confirms the figures gave out at a open day during the summer where acts of fiction on milk solids/yields per cow, what's to be gained by lying beats me, you'll get caught out eventually
Ya, I always find it easier to just tell the truth.
The An Taisce court case is up tomorrow. This whole derogation thing is getting very precarious now imo.
The case they’re bringing is to be defended by dept of ag…. Judging on their recent performance at home and abroad you can all but now guarantee derogation will be wiped out by 2026.
I'm trying to decide on future investment here and it's hard to have confidence in investing in anything past 170 at the moment. Although I might have always said something similar I believe we are at a different level of risk now.
It's mainly against the Department of Housing as they are the ones with the gift of the derogation and are in control of NAP. The case is being defended by both departments though. My understanding is if An Taisce win, then the derogation is gone immediately, barring an appeal.
One of the first questions asked by AIB recently when we were applying for loan for land was if you were in derogation that says a lot, we would be able to keep under 170 with just cows heifers would have to be contract reared and beef side will be cut out completely also.
Correct if an taisce win derogation is removed immediately, icmsa and ifa are going to be present in the case also.
They can be present all they like but they can and will do SFA to influence this. The short term future is in the hands of the judiciary now and they won't (at least shouldn't) be concerned with the pros and cons of keeping a derogation but look at the facts and determine if what's there is fine, or not
IFA have a full defence case put into affidavits in case dept of housing don't defend properly.
How an taisce can take these cases on no foal no fee basis is mindboggling.
To be allowed to be notice parties to the case farm orgs had to sign a waiver that they could not recover costs from an taisce if an taisce loose the case.
An taisce can take the case for free...farmers have to pay up in full.
And unfortunately the judiciary are not soil scientists and can only go on what An Taisce present to them and what slant they present to the court.
I see the EPA are bringing out the latest bursary of 25k per researcher to do their work in compiling scientific papers. Obviously not a blank cheque but to compile and get results and present in a way they see fit.
This week on radio 1 yesterday was coming from COP and it was the same narrative at the end of the segment from the environmentalist they brought onto speak, cut down on all dairy and beef. Silver bullet as always with them lot is to transition into more tillage which they never look into the implications such a change would bring for pollution.
They've tied their mast that tillage pollution is from soil type not the practice. It doesn't matter if it increases. It won't be looked at just slammed down as soil type.
Livestock and cows are not afforded the same privilege.
History will prove them wrong. But it doesn't matter if short term goals are achieved for the dogmatic.
Another report published in the last few days showed nearly a 20% drop in number of farmers from 2016 to 2022.
By the time 2030 comes around there will be an even bigger decrease the way things are going
Were sorted so if wouldnt rely on our lads to do much.
Selling heifers looks gd id never trust irish milk production figure look all the dams all done 305 days while nz bull dams show eg 235 275.
see something the other day that there were 110,000 pig farmers registered with the dept of Ag back in 1960... now down to 270... Dairying will be the same if we continue to allow Europe to do its thing... while the rest of the world has a good laugh at us...
can someone tell me more bout this case An Taisce is taking... im not familiar with it
Ifj have a short article up about it if you google it not much info in it
That's unbelievable 😳
