The Chase - wrong answers

My father introduced me to the chase, he was an avid fan and watched at least two episodes a day. I seem to have caught the bug. However, Ive notcied that sometimes the correct answer is actually wrong. I was wondering if anyone else noticed this.

Just tonight the question was "How many events are in a Heptathalon", the contestant said two and Bradley said correct. There are 7 events in a Heptathlon. During the week the question was "What colour is the wax on BabyBel cheese?" the contestant said Blue and Brad said, "no, it green". The wax on Baby Bel is 100% red.

Are you sure the question wasn't how many days are in the heptathlon? That's two afaik

One might hope.

You would think they would take out questions that had any kind of controversial correct answer or interpretation.

You sure you heard the question right? Difficult to believe they would get something as simple as the heptathlon one so wrong.

Er.... I could not swear to it. I can't run it back to check. The baby bel one though is definitely accurate, I downloaded the episode and was definitely wrong with no ambiguity.

There's a vegan Babybel which is wrapped in green wax, are you sure that wasn't the question?

You should go back and check as you are definitely wrong on the babybel question as it was what colour is the wax on the vegan babybel. Which is green.

They may not have said vegan, it could have been called plant based. But I remember hearing the question and it definitely wasn't the red version

Those quiz shows are pretty stringent on making sure the questions and answers are correct, and usually have independent adjudicators assigned to keep things above level, mainly because getting things wrong could lead to possible legal comeback as well as discrediting the show. Bradley Walsh even has to try keep the same speed and tempo when asking questions to the contestants and the Chaser.

Sorry, but it's far more likely you may have misheard either the question or the answer than they got questions (fairly easy ones from your examples) wrong.

The heptathlon one was 100% how many days is it competed over? I only watched it a couple of days ago.

I have seen when he told them the answer was wrong and then when the round was over he said he'd been told it could be accepted and they got an extra score

Aside from stringent fact checking, given the chasers are top of their game quiz pros, you’d imagine they’d be feeding back into the system if there was a sizeable proportion of wrong accepted answers. It’s in their interest to keep the game honest as much as anyone else’s. .

If I may go OT, I remember watching Millionaire (Chris Tarrant era) and the first or second question, the ones with the funny wrong answers, was something like which is a unit of computer data, byte was the answer they were looking for, but one of the "wrong" was "nibble". But, that is actually correct too, it's 4 bits!
