Heard some lad on newstalk this evening after making some sort of film on beef production ...hardly the same lad?
Apparently not eating beef is pretty much the only thing we can do to prevent climate change
Really...the only thing we can do?
And you know a 100% if all beef production stopped in the morning it would probably solve the sum total of sweet **** all...
There is nothing but lazy generalisations and failure to question most of the horseshit that gets pumped out over the airwaves daily...
Seemed to me the guy was taking his data from intensive indoor factory style production....but even at that, single most beneficial thing we can do is stop eating beef....what a load of shite
But happy to give this lad airtime because he made some sort of documentary...
I keep hoping they'll have an actual balanced person with a brain to contribute to these things but I suppose that wouldn't sell advertising as well as the divisive loons arguing opposite ends of the zealot/moron spectrum
Was the same lad on Newstalk as was on morning tele in the UK yesterday. He spoke serious manure and was roundly taken apart on twitter by UK farmers, butchers and even Thomas Duffy of this island did some maths and concluded yer mans numbers were based on us eating crazy amounts per day. Even yer mans CO2/kg was wrong from the get go
I'll believe it when I see the report card and the cheque clears.
neighbour sent a load off tonight for it.
Have a load of bullocks going this week. Was offered 4.80 but holding out for 4.85.
Agent getting back to me tomorrow.
Midlands.
Liffey meats??
Yeah
WANTED FOR CUSTOMERS FACTORY CATTLE & FORWARD STORES
Text from mart. Looks positive for another rise.
4.85 secured. Going tomorrow
Good stuff.
athenry mart was hot yesterday, well done finishers and forward stores got a good price, we got 2.29/kg, 2.16/kg and 2.06/kg for fr/hol forward stores all around 22/23 months. delighted with it.
Any idea of factory prices this week?
Have ten left to go, good R/I grades
Beef plan outlet are €5.20 all in for steers R=/-. Thats just from their message.
Looking for people’s opinions, have a female and male HEX, 15months and 13months respectively, weighted end of October at 450kg and 470kg respectively, don’t normally have cattle that weight that early so not used to the early finishing game, is their a premium for finishing early? what’s people’s thoughts, Pull them inside and finish or let back to grass next spring or an other?
5 for bullock and5.10 for heifers If you have reasonable numbers of well finished cattle tis a while since I’ve seen factories under so much pressure
Got quoted 4.90 and they cover haulage.
Any steer/heifer prices for next week ?
5 euro barrier is well broken anyways up to yourself after that What you can get
I'll talk to 1 or 2 procurement lads and see what is on the table or how far I can push them, I can always wait until the next week
Any updates on prices?
Anyone getting that? Ballinasloe not quite there yet I think...
4.95 the best I heard so far
Just very quick conversation with 1 factory at least 5 base but I'm sure a lot more to be got with no more mart cattle for approx 3 weeks they will empty their own and contracted feedlots by then so farmers need to demand a lot more than official quotes for prime cattle, media articles about 4.90/4.95 need to be ignored and also feed lots have been paying 2.80/2.90 live in marts for Angus/Hereford for the last 2 weeks which is a long ways above selling on the grid at current quotes
My neighbour sent a load of AAX bullocks this morning. Got 5.40 flat. Booked in since last week. So he says anyway. Not normally one to be bullshitting. Midlands area.
That's the run of AA alright..I heard 5..50 even. On a 300dw beast That's about 1,600 give or take into the pocket...not brilliant in the overall scheme of things with costs the way they are.
8 or 9. He usually has them split into groups of that number when he houses them. These would be the stragglers from this year. He normally finishes off grass. These would be coming up on 30 months. Some even over I'd say. He buys them as yearlings generally so I think most would be dairy stock. He generally buys same sort of stock I do. He has loads of shed space though so is able to house them. These were in sheds since early October.
If they're in since October, getting a good push and getting close to 30 months they should be far heavier than 300kg dw. Something between 330 and 340kg dw would leave a lot of money at €5.50 flat.
There was €5.30 flat price available for O grade whiteheads 2 weeks ago.
€5.40 for AA should certainly be available.
I got equivalent of 5.40 in mart last week for AA heifers. No offer of a flat price from factory and it was a mix of O and R. 24 months old and would have killed about 310kg. Good silage since housing and about 50kg meal each.
Have you sent cattle this week?
