Haven't done it but it looks like road runners will be fine.
Road shoes are fine. Route is compacted gravel so unless is is particularly wet, road shoes are fine.
thanks folks
Morning from Helbrunn.
I've always said that Ardgillan would be one of the tougher runs, River Valley again I would have said was hard due to that 'hill', but having done Cabinteely last weekend, I reckon (imho) that it now ranks up there. My 5 hilliest/toughest of the Dublin runs I've done would be,
Cabinteely, that final incline that you do three times
River Valley, due to the 'hill' you climb twice
Ardgillan, for its finish
Porterstown, with a caveat as the course if I remember was temporary, so you might not do it's hill as many times as I did.
Waterstown, again a tough finish
We're back doing a bit of parkrun tourism, so I'd be interested in people's opinions as to challenging runs to do, as opposed to just ticking off runs. I don't mind hills or off road, as I really enjoyed lees road, Illaunmanagh in Clare and Oldbridge in Drogheda.
I did it in regular trainers. It's quite hilly, lovely though.
I reckon Knockancree Woods in north Tipperary would be a challenge. Definitely a trail rather than a Road Run. Didn't do it as a Parkrun but I did stroll one lap of the course.
I hear Rostrevor south east of Newry is also a tough hilly one.
I haven't done the ones mentioned above yet but Knockanacree Woods is definitely the toughest one I've done to date, it really is a proper trail run with exposed tree roots enroute, sharp and soft'ish turns and elevation changes on the two lap course. In the same month I ran it back in 2019. Inch Beach 22:11, Tralee 21:42, Glen River 22:37, Knockanacree took me 24:26. Maybe with more experience of the course and proper trail runners I could have been a bit quicker but easily a 60/90 secs slower for me.
Has the plan for SETU Waterford been abandoned? We've had two new Parkruns announced since and one of them is underway.
The toughest one that I've done in Ireland.
They have just posted an update on their Facebook page saying that the start has been delayed but will happen
Knockanacree is the toughest in Ireland IMO
I haven’t been to a parkrun in a few years. Can I use a barcode on my phone to register my time or is it still the printed one I need to bring? Thanks
I think most places/scanners are able to scan off the phone now. I use my Garmin and works fine
Barcode on your phone has been acceptable for a while now. You can even have it on your watch. You could use something like the "5k parkrunner app" (an unofficial android app) to show your barcode. It turns it into a QR code which makes it easier to scan.
You can store in your Google Wallet too.
Make sure your phone is unlocked and barcode ready before getting to the person scanning.
Could be very icy tomorrow, a few icy patches on our course that didn't clear today, will have to make a call for the morning.
New record time in Tralee
Also first Parkrun with a new letter starts tomorrow in University of Galway, hopefully the track is OK. I'm heading "home" to Athlone, the site of my Parkrun #1 for my Parkrun #50
Was doing tokens at Ardgillan yesterday. First home was a woman, 18:47 and comfortably ahead.
222 did University of Galway yesterday, bolstered more than likely by both Knocknacarra and Oranmore canceling due to icy conditions on track.
I'm in Germany for a few weeks with two parkruns about the same distance away, I chose wrong on Sat as the one I went to in Halle (Ziegelweise) cancelled after I'd arrived where as the other one in Leipzig (Küchenholz ) went ahead. It was the correct call needless to say. Oh well some you win...
Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo is the latest parish looking to set up a new Parkrun. Quick look at the map shows that Sligo town and Ballina are their nearest so good spot to set up.
Just FYI the course has changed since this clip was made.
Event #500 at Malahide next Saturday.
A start date for the next junior event in Cork has been announced.

Staying in the Ferrycarrig Hotel for the weekend and planning on doing Wexford Racecourse parkrun. Looks very straightforward getting there. I presume I can park at the racecourse?
They list free parking as one of their facilities.
Always worth reading the course page before visiting a new parkrun.

Going to the 3 Arena in a few months time and staying overnight, on a Friday night. Would be a shame not to take in a Parkrun, where would be the nearest? 🙂
