I can’t agree, if you take care of any car it should in general be reliable.
to wire off an entire series of engine just because it’s a diesel simply make no sense especially if you’re saying older diesel
are reliable.
you’re probably far more like to have a diesel last longer than an ev for example and that isn’t ev bashing
A modern diesel with numerous expensive things to go wrong lasting longer than an EV with almost no moving parts? I think we'll agree to disagree ;-)
Just to add, we still don’t know the cons of electrical cars down the line and using 10 years as a rule to say diesels are not reliable is simply statistically inaccurate.
If you had said you’re more likely to have issues with a diesel that has been driven around a city over and over then I’d agree with you but one that has motorway miles, good history and cared for will probably be just as reliable as the rest
That Punto sporting looks fantastic, definitely a car that's going to hold its value or better over the years. The BMW looks really nice too. Nice to see good cars appearing again.
Yes we do. Plenty of 12 year old Leafs around and they've proven to be ultra reliable. They do have a lot of battery degradation, but that is because they have zero battery heating / cooling. All EVs that came after it do have that.
Hardtop convertible anyone?
307cc 1.6 petrol. 2008. €400 to tax. NCT to March. €2,900

Peugeot 207 cc Convertible Leather **76k Kms!! **
@hoodie6029 - great time of the year to buy a convertible!
My own '01 Mercedes 230SLK, also a hard top convertible, in fact the first one of them ever, isn't getting much use. NCT until April 2024, very well looked after car, but paintwork isn't good. If anyone is interested, PM me. Within bangernomics budget, but only just.
Was going to keep it for a year or two, or at least until next spring, but could do with a bit of cash at the moment
meh. Maybe the modern ones
But the aforementioned model we are referring to does not have a DPF, can have the EGR taken out cheap as chips and has a solid mass flywheel.
Pretty cheap diesels, almost as reliable as the VW PD engines for early 00's
I had a few 9-3's, both petrol and diesel and the diesel was a 2008 and it had a DPF fitted, so surely that 2010 has it also
I think from around 2006 onwards they were fitted with DPF's, same Fiat engine as used in the Alfa 159 and from memory, my 2008 also had a dual mass flywheel? Not certain on the clutch, but definitely remember it had a DPF
Such a good looking little car, has aged really well.
The colour, wheels and 2 door styling on that is really cool.
Thats a great bangernomics find.
You're right it is 2006, some early 2007 were also without. I got myself turned a little forgetting that car is 2010.
Think the gearbox was swapped to 6 speed at one stage also, but the 5 speed single mass on 2007 or earlier.
Yeah, mine was 6 speed now when I think about it, also probably DMF too, but despite the DPF and DMF it served me well until some guy rear ended it 😂
PD engines weren't without their woes either, knocking flywheels, wiring harness problems, vnt turbo vanes sticking I had one and had a lot of hassle with it I was glad to see the back of it tbh, the TSI I replaced it with was a beauty, still regret selling that car🥴

Looks to be a decent bugeye Corolla for 2250 Euros, complete with Elvis Presley cassette! New NCT until middle of December next year although it says January 2025 on advert. These are getting fairly thin on the ground at this stage, especially with low mileage and if they aren't totally rotten
It still has the rubbers around the headlights 😊 it looks very nice in fairness, they were a great aul slogger I prefer that shape to the hatchback.
Nice find and decent price for the tax too.
I see a 2009 206 CC with same engine up for less money. NCT until August 2024 and only 37k miles, BUT, because its an automatic, it's 790 tax per year!

Even has the original Toyota radio cassette player with the removable front.
Authentic Elvis cassette tape in picture #8 too:
I couldn't allow myself to pay €250 for this never mind €2250. Maybe the Elvis tape is adding the huge value? :-)
Have an O2 Bora from new, parked up in shed for the last 2 years. 100 bhp 1.9Tdi pd. A simply unbreakable car. Pull like a train.
One owner 2004 Civic 1.4 saloon with NCT until March 2024
It has been dropped from €1950 to €1500
Surely has to be worth that purely from a rarity point of view at this stage!
https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/honda-civic/33961622
Jesus! It is unsellable with that tax rate. Might be able to export to the UK or North where the tax is kinder. But with ULEZ’s in the UK, it might have a limited market there too.
Sold now?
I had a 1.4 2000 saloon civic that I always regret selling, the thing was bulletproof. How would these be in comparison?
Great to see some life back in this thread.
Granted the peak bangernomics days are behind us, but it's nice to see some decent options sub €2.5k popping up again.
The likes of the recent Punto, bugeye Corolla and Civic are all cracking bangernomics cars particularly in such an uncertain era in motoring. Ideal second cars or even as main runabouts depending on requirements.
Kick the EV can down the road for another 5 years and save yourself a fortune in the process!!
A mate of mine had one for about 6 or 7 years. He drove it himself for the first 4 years and then the wife used it for another 3 years or thereabouts and from what I remember, I'm almost sure it had around 195,000 miles on it when he sold it and like you, he still complains to this day saying he should have never got rid of it 😂
Let's throw in an EV for Bangernomics money just to keep everyone happy, even if it does only have a range of 60kms at this stage 😮
https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/nissan-leaf-2011-read-description-before-contact/34587488
Excuse me while I wipe this egg off my face….
😂
I can't see anyone spending near €3,000 on a car that will only do 40 miles and then be stranded.
Good to see the sellers honesty all the same.
Yeah, I'd imagine the market will be very limited for sure although I'm sure I saw someone post on here recently in the EV section who bought a Leaf with similar range just to do school runs. Even just to buy it and get it home would be a nightmare, better off to have it trailered! There's an even cheaper one on Donedeal at the moment too, with an even lower range, but didn't list it here as it's out of NCT
I'd be more comfortable buying a €1,000 petrol banger for doing school runs or the likes. But some hippy will probably buy this
Leaf and then "leaf" it to rot in their garden when they realise it's a bag of sh1 TE.
