That’s a substantial improvement. It’s likely the German cars are better built too. Are Giga Berlin every likely to build RHD cars ? It would be a lot cheaper in terms of shipping for UK/Ireland market.
Cheaper shipping but higher wage and building costs, I don't know do they cancel each other out but they certainly reduce any difference
I think it's tariff savings that make the big difference, it's currently 10%, if the probe imposes higher tariffs then it might make sense for them to switch UK&I production to Germany.
The BYD blade battery will probably come to China at some point, and CATL are also improving batteries. I can see Tesla starting to use CATL's Qilin at some point to maintain competive pricing between suppliers
Tesla margins, by model and region, but only up to Q1 2023.
the most telling figures from our perspective are (very bottom right) the combined margin for Europe was 10% in Q1, and was 8% in China.
its hard to see how margins for cars out of Berlin have increased since that point given there was one further price cut.

In the context of the blade battery that indicates a higher margin on the EU MY RWD than there is for the Chinese MY RWD. The important question will come down to if the current EU probe on Chinese cars add's an extra 10% tariff will it just moving European RHD production to Germany from China. The accountants will be the ones making the decision.
Tesla also want to maintain their China domestic presence, the current EU exports is hugely positive for China, lose them and Tesla could lose the China domestic
You will have to explain that logic. China is currently Teslas second largest geographic market (after US) and is the largest market worldwide for car sales by a long shot. Shifting production to Europe for the European market (were it to happen) would (in my view) be unlikely to threaten the China domestic market given its materiality in terms of scale
I don't think the goodwill would survive an extra 10% tariff
Condensation in rear lights.
Anybody have any luck getting these replaced?
I am banging my head against a wall with Tesla who are saying it is normal.
No it's not, they have gaps in the supposedly sealed unit, which allows air in and moisture build up.
Shocking customer service on this front.
From looking online it's a common enough occurance, people seem to only have success with replacements when the condensation starts turning into droplets or pooling.
The units aren't sealed they have a vent hole which is meant to help prevent condensation.
How bad is it? Don't think they are sealed units. Used to be that if you have droplets inside they'll replace them, if just misted a little they won't. Common apparently with LED lights in general
If you have large droplets of water/ water pooling in lights they will replace, otherwise no its fine.
Drive the car until it becomes an issue is my advice.
Agree, have seen condensation in most LED car lights, including our own. Normally after washing. Vanishes fast enough, I find if you park your car with the rear towards the south it helps, amazed how much heat there still is in the sun at this time of year.
Get a little syringe, dispense droplets of water in through the "condensation hole".
Been thinking it’s strange that we haven’t seen a model y in the low 40’s up on Donedeal yet. I would say any used RWD would need to be priced pretty much at 40k or perhaps even lower to be offloaded given you can buy new for 45k.
probably see plenty in NY but haven’t spotted one yet.
€45,900 cheapest at Donedeal right now
The RWD is only here a few months, wouldn't expect many to be up for sale for another year or two
Nobody wants to sell theirs. What else do they jump into in that price bracket?
There were very few MYLRs sold last year. Very few offload a car within a year unless they absolutely hated it. There are a couple 2022 for sale but at the prices the dealers are looking for them you'd be better off buying brand new, and you'd get better a finance rate. The price cut model y is only out this year. How many people would be trading after only a few months? You would have to wait at least another 2 years to gauge the price of the used Model Y's.
There are a lot of 2021-2023 Model 3 RWD for sale, sellers are looking for crazy prices. 2022/23 RWDs with plenty of milage listed for same price as a new RWD highland. I find it hard to believe anybody would buy at those prices, for cash or via higher interest rate bank loan.
Just posted this in the m3 thread replying to a similar Q:
there’s been 4,000 new M3’s registered here and Carzone lists just 42 for resale (1%). It’s a massively disproportionate ratio and clearly shows that Tesla owners prefer to hold on to the cars longer.
the only sellers are dreaming, as you’ve said above. The best value M3, as has always been the case, is a new (Highland) one.
while I agree with you that Tesla owners are probably very satisfied, thats 1% at a given moment. A truer reflection would be how many Model 3's for sale over the course of the year (Including other outlets, done deal etc) obviously we will not know this but you get the idea.
Partly associated with the fact that of the 4000 registered many were bought at prices significantly higher than current pricing, meaning the decision to sell is not so easy (incur a huge depreciation, have to clear finance and have to buy a replacement).
I don't think the historically higher price is that relevant for most, it's the cost to change. I am still financially better off with my 221 M3 from a cost of change perspective as the car I sold (MS) has plummeted much more than the new cost of a 3
For anyone sitting on the fence regarding Model Y some further discounts have hit the Tesla website for Model Y Inventory cars. Availing of all discounts (Showroom Discount, Tesla Referral and SEAI grant) you can drive away in a Blue, or Midnight Silver for 44.2k.
Now might be a good time to act….exceptional value
Also for those who would like the extra 'range' cough cough, you can get a black or white LR for €50K.
Or most current owners (like myself) bought last year and have lost nearly 20k in depreciation enforced by tesla price drops after price drops. You can now get a white model Y LR for what I paid for my 3 RWD last year.
Testing a long range Y this week. Are the white inserts in the dash (instead of wood effect etc) a relatively new thing?
White inserts come with the white interior.
Black interior has wood inserts (for now) on MY
Todays discounts have been withdrawn and Inventory are back to the previous levels. They lasted about 24 hours, hard to know what is gong on
How much extra discount did they apply?
