They changed it back after I sent in a complaint.

Anyone have any more info on this? What time does it become live? What constitutes "HUGE SAVINGS" in Lidl parlance?

I did my first shop since they changed the labels. I’m not a fan of the price per kg being so small as others have mentioned.

The only good thing is items on offer seem to have the closing date of the offer on the label now.

My local doesn’t always remove the Sale labels on time.

Had a weird but gratifying experience in a Northern Irish Lidl yesterday.

I was going to visit a relative in Belfast, and stopped en route at Banbridge, to pop into Lidl in search of cheaper plonk. I was pleasantly surprised at the cheapo plonk being £3.49 a bottle. So bought some. And also bought some at £4.50, and even pushed the boat out and got a few a little more expensive than that. All in all I bought 36 bottles. (That should last us until the summer). Had them all lined up on the conveyor belt, and then the customer ahead of me had some sort of issue with her bill, and the till operator had to go off to ask a colleague for advice, who in turn consulted another colleague. Bit of a delay, but I wasn't inclined to move my 36 bottles to another till.

It turned out the issue was the customer hadn't got her Lidl Plus discount. She was told the only thing that could be done would be to scrap that bill, and input everything again. She said 'no, I'll leave it'. She'd spent £160, and said she'd lost out on £16 discount. I said to her 'I'm from the South, and once or twice when I had an issue with the App, I've WhatsAppd Lidl, and they've been very helpful - it's worth a try'.

On the way out of the store, I met her, and she asked me if I'd got my discount. I told her I hadn't used Lidl Plus as I was from the Republic. (I have changed the country when abroad before, but it's not really worth doing for the 20% off chicken breasts, or whatever).

Later I looked at my receipt - and I had got 10% discount on all my shopping! Checked and there was an offer for this weekend only in Northern Ireland Lidl - 10% off if you spent over £50, 'on Lidl Plus'. But I'd never used the app. Whereas the local lady had, and the discount hadn't gone through for her.

I paid £131 for my shopping - it would have been £145 without the discount.

    Totally off topic .... but

I also noticed the very small font that Lidl are using fot the unit pricing.

I struggled to read some of them.

So I contacted the CCPC ( Competition and Consumer Protection Commission) asking if there is a minimum font size required for the unit price.

    They replied:

"The prices must also be clearly visible and legible to prospective customers and in proximity to the product. However, while the selling price and/or unit price must be clearly visible and legible, there is nothing in the Regulations as regards a minimum font size for the price display."

so I sent them some photos and hopefully they will follow it up.

    Here's an example:

    p.s.

I know, I've little to be doing!

I think it's highly likely that someone in Lidl reads social media. It's good feedback and I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually respond to the complaints.

Checking the product code for offers is also very difficult without glasses.

I bought two of these jumpers on Monday, I wonder could I return them today and immediately buy them again with the activated coupons?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,441 ✭✭✭✭zell12

Yes. Do it. Explain to the cashier first what you want to do, and go when quiet 😉

One of the things I liked about Lidl was the unit pricing was big and legible. When I went into Dunnes or Supervalu, theirs was a lot smaller.

You're right to flag it because it's a big inconvenience to have to bend over backwards to see what kind of value you are getting.
