Ya I agree re doing it you'll never be sorry and it sounds top class to be fair ....just it's some investment needed for our business and middling returns normally ....
Milked on my own in new parlour this evening. 45 minutes . That included a run down to old yard for calf jacket a neighbour needed for a weak calf. Normally 1.5 hours at least in old parlour in evening .
That’s a great saving on time. Best of luck with it whelan,
Milking is the easy part. It's cleaning the 24 clusters and washing out that takes as long
It's funny but I heard something similar about rotary parlours, it's the amount of time and water( especially if off a meter) is the issue.o E lad will milk them but he spends two hours cleaning afterwards and a couple cubic metres of water. Great system where you are continually are milking and clean once a day In he middle of the night, but a disaster where you need to clean after every milking
How many cows u milk
That where thr extra cost in plumbing can go. Having plenty points in the right place for volume washer, pressure washer on a reel to do the pit and clusters handy. Have seen on rotarys a fixed hose washing the clusters as they come around the platform as well to speed things up
Have you ever washed-up a rotary parlour?it's a 40 plus minute job on your own for a 50/60 bail, plumbing makes little odds the sheer volume if equipment and area to wash is just huge
That time saving alone say if it's 1.5 hours a day, even putting it at 20 an hour for 300 days is a saving of 9k a year
Them all
Didn't say it would be done in 2 mins but there are ways to speed it up, have been on a good few farms with rotary and speaking to lads running em that's what they've done. One lad had the volume washer on an arm coming up the middle and over the top to the outside so hose could be used all around the outside swinging on that arm without pulling a hose around the place. Others had 4 or 5 points on walls around the plant and most had a hose washing clusters as they come to the cups on point. Bigger parlours are gonna take more time obv but there are ways of speeding things up.
There's a difference of 400 quid between a 5hp and 10hp volume washer pump 3 phase, with the 10hp you could nearly stand in the one spot to wash down...
What was their wash-up times, any one I milked on had all of the above still doesn't get away from the fact their is alot of time spent doing wash-up ...
It's a bug bear of mine to be honest when you see the adds Johnny is milking his 350 cows in a hour, cups on and off yes not machine turned on and turned off, our how many in the parlour one/two people
Fair play, you won't know yourself in the spring
The reply to that is, they must be giving feck all milk
Agreed. Milking time for me is when I leave the house to the time i get back to the house. Down to 4 rows last night and I was longer washing up then milking
The ads only ever mention "pit time" but they don't make that clear.
Milking time starts when you go to get the cows until you have them back where they came from and the parlour door closed.
How many wud that be thanks
If ever a fella didn’t get the message 😂
It also amazing how they always qoute how long it took to milk in old parlour some crazy figure
Sorry i dont understand its a simple question thanks
I'd say she mills about 180ish. She doesn't want to talk to you because you hurt her feelings about selling stock to dealers, etc
It is absolutely none of my business to know how cows anyone is milking or how many acres they have or how much money they make.it is up to anyone to post whatever info they want here but it is up to me not to ask
Ah now. There is nothing wrong with him asking her, whether she answers or not.
Jesus, if asking a question on a site requires prior thought then boards may shut down.
He asked, and the answer he received surely made it clear the poster didn’t want to give a number so why ask again?
It's probably cause it was that particular poster, I'd be curious to know how many she was milking now in this new parlour as would others, but anyway.
boards.ie is a community - you can’t insult people and make snide comments, and then expect people to be nice to you.
Can we nominate someone else to ask that question🙈
She said she built the new shed for 200 and wouldn't fill it this year, you have to be smart and read between the lines with her
Shed will hold 250. Have dry cows and in calf heifers in 1 side at the moment . Milkers in side closest to parlour milking 120 atm..rest dry. Plan to milk 180, could go to more if I wanted. Not in derogation. Reduced numbers last year due to crap milking parlour
We've gone back to hand milking into a single bucket. Saves a load on the washing up time 😉
