Quite the headline.
This is a thread of interesting posts, but the judge found as above. The reason he isn't knocked off the ballot is that the judge found the presidency was not an office under the US.
Cue the truth social posts from Trump boasting how the court found that he is a legitimate candidate for president, ignoring the little detail that he has been labelled an insurgent by an official court order.
Precisely, like the first ruling with E Jean Carroll. "Technically, he's *not* a rapist, he sexually assaulted her".. as if that ever was a win
I think it sums up nicely how f**ked up the USA is, that according to the judge he shouldn't be allowed to run for any state offices because he's an insurrectionist, but can run for the office that oversees the whole thing no bother. What a country that truly is.
I dont think the framers and the founders ever imagined someone like Donald Trump would get within spitting distance of the Presidency.
It's what happens when a country worships and mythologises its constitution and founders, and refuse to continuance the idea it might be a work in progress.
People still trying to maintain it was an Insurrection when the footage released yesterday shows anything but.
The convictions include seditious conspiracy so insurrection is a pretty fair descriptor. Pretty sure it's gonna be considered as such in the history books too.
Then what was it?
Check 5 posts above
We have terms such as a bloodless coup when eg the heads of state are arrested and the coup plotters' replacements put in .
That could possibly be called an insurrection
This was similar but (a) it failed and (b) it was bloody.
An insurrection could describe it but not all insurrections look the same on the outside .
The same way as white collar crime can ,wrongly be seen as victimless(here again Trump is a good example)
Isn't the common denial that they were tourists, or some march of concern? Seem to remember some GOP or right wingers pleading innocence that they were just simply wanderers.
And given the aim of it was to disrupt the transfer of power so that Donald Trump could stay in power, it was an insurrection by any functional metric.
I was just reading twitter and the right wingers are posting them exact same stuff you are.
Posting a short video to suit their narrative.
We saw it on live tv, we saw them smash their way in, we saw them beat the police.
Well yes thats the opinion os a real world thinking person. I was asking that poster what was it if it was not an insurrection.
Good luck getting an answer. They'll be off again, pop up later when they have a little Bon Mot to share that confirms nothing except bias they'd claim otherwise not to possess.
What would you call it then? A group picnic in the park?
Are you going to try to argue that they weren't armed again?
Then there was months of congressional investigation. It really happened. It was an insurrection.
We also saw BLM and Antifa hoodlums riot, loot, maim, kill, and commit over 2bn dollars of damage.
Cities were destroyed, businesses destroyed, livelihoods ruined.
We were however told that these incidents were mostly peaceful protests though and the Democrats even bailed out some of these hoodlums so they could reoffend as it suited their agenda.
Despite all the patronising bewailing over riots by the Left when it came to Jan. 6, the devastation caused by the BLM riots was widely accepted, if not celebrated, by these same people.
Rioting and destruction are permitted just so long as they are done under the guise of politically left-wing aspirations it seems.
What happened on Jan 6th was a picnic in comparison.
The footage:
I'd be in fear of my life with that mob breaking down the door and showing no signs of stopping.
The lives of Senior members of the government include the VP had their lives placed at risk. The fact that no member of government ended up injured is more thanks to the security details. You'll say over and over that you're not a Trump supporter but you continually downplay events such as this which has resulted in many convictions. You support an extreme right and wish to downplay their behavior, that's the reality.
Let's not also negate the reasons behind the BLM protests and what happened on Jan 6th. BLM was based on protests of how black people are treated by law enforcement following the unlawful killing of a black man, and while there were pockets of looting, vandalism and violence, that was never the aim and was largely condemned. Jan 6th was about trying to prevent the certification of a democratically held election because their candidate didn't win, where vandalism and violence was very much part of the aim to help achieve that goal.
But of course, the only way to try and defend Jan 6th is to point to something else as a deflection, because if forced to actually discuss Jan 6th on its own merits all the defenders can rely on is trying to post selective videos from Capitol hallways where people were walking casually.
Why are you distracting with blm and antifa?
What that got to do with what’s being discussed?
what cities were destroyed?
Downplaying jan 6th won’t work in the slightest.
It’s in the history books.
Textbook example of whataboutery right here.
Can't actually defend the insurrection except with deliberate misinformation and deflection.
How many hours of footage from the insurrection had to be parsed through to find the least offensive elements so you could trot out absolute nonsense about a 'picnic'? Well?
An entirely bad faith argument.
Fair play to those who could watch 44 thousand hours of footage in 24 hours and pick out the bits they want to show off.
Which of them tried to disrupt a presidential vote count?
Which of them tried to propagate a failed candidate to the white house?
Who was complaining about racism?
Not saying the BLM was innocent and all righteous, but there is a difference between protesting against systematic racism, and trying to elect somebody who lost an election
Not sure why the old fashioned word, treason, doesn't apply to both the mob and Trump's actions on Jan 6th?
Let's face it, someone with a tiny penis (as described by the prostitute he slept with while his wife was giving birth) is still struggeling with his daddy issues..at that age. He is a child and can't be taught a dogs new tricks. At that age, if he can't have already have grown as a person, and anyone who supports him sees that in him. America has become a place where that can't happen for the ordinary person. That's their society.
Looks like TFG's a convicted insurrectionist (the court finding is a finding of fact) but staying on the ballot in Colorado, too. Still there may be an appeal.
