Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

I dunno- I’d say a lot of staff in RTÉ are sickened by RT’s news this week given what they’re facing now (albeit a lot of this moaning from RTÉ staff is just posturing- there’s no compulsory redundancies right now so no-one is “losing” their jobs) - as a result I’d say there’s no appetite to bring back Happy Clappy in the forseable future
Has he confirmed that he is moving to London? If all of his shows turn out to be engineered and pre-recorded, he doesn't even need to relocate to the UK. He can simply record his scripted voice links at either Q102 or FM104 for which they would be then sent to Virgin. That would confirm (to me anyway) the nature of his salary.
Yep in an interview somewhere with one of the tabloids I think, he’s mentioned “Putney” as a possible new home.
He’ll be there for at least 2 years trying to build an audience- he also needs to be visible, out and about at parties, getting his photo taken, all that lark- he can’t be hiding in bookstores and Connemara - he needs to be proactive building his profile in order to meet the likely very demanding targets that Virgin radio have set for him
Have your say in the online survey - for what it's worth. Probably not very much - does anyone ever bother reading these things?
Personally I congratulated RTE on getting rid of Tubridy and that they should put all presenters on moderate wages.
Islington did I hear him say? Then there was the Enda Brady lad welcoming Ryan to Blighty and putting out a word to the Irish diaspora to help Mr.Tubridy find a room to live etc.
Putney is nice, low council tax too.
Funny you mention the bookshops...I don't follow him on any social media but a post of his came up on my Instagram last week. It was Tubs standing outside Daunt Book on Marylebone High Street, talking about how it was his favourite place in London. He's so tiresome. He probably made the video, then walked up the street to Madame Tussaud's.
I’ll tell them you referred me😃
He needs UK based followers now- Irish instagrammers in the UK will likely follow him simply as an interest to what he gets up to or who he’s meeting - but he needs UK people too - I tell ya, I wouldn’t like to be trying to launch a new media career in the UK aged 50
The only Irish “media” person who came late to the UK broadcasting table was Dr.Anthony Clare RIP but he was exceptional at what he did and a very specialist field of broadcasting
He pushes the 'well-read' narrative constantly but, in my opinion, does not appear to be at all well read.
We're well read of him, as those of us from Donegal might say.
There are always people trying to be noticed in the media and Tubridy is a nobody to most Londoners and Virgin Radio listeners. The problem with a return to RTE is that he's very much the face of the payments scandal and 400 pepople will lose their jobs over the next few years in RTE. There will still be an institutional memory of the ordinary workers there taking salary cuts while Tubridy had his protected. That would make it very difficult for Bakhurst or his successor to give Tubridy a job in RTE. As for his new gig with Virgin, it is ultimately a Murdoch owned business and all those businesses are numbers driven. It is commercial radio (digital/DAB and online). Using his programme as a filler for Q102 is interesting but it is not a national broadcaster like RTE. It would also give the NKM people a chance to keep promoting him the Irish market in the hope of getting a job on one of the Irish broadcasters if the Virgin Radio gig doesn't work out.

Fair points... rightly or wrongly... the whole shithshow of RTE bubbled to the surface with Turbridy on top of it. Do RTE need him? No they dont. Will they take him back in the near or distant future as a main player for them? Can't see it.

I'd say the opposite, the talent especially is probably relieved that finally Ryan landed a gig because it ends all the speculation as to his employability. The longer this was going on the more questions about everyone else in RTE and why were they all getting paid so much when their biggest former star was struggling to get any contract whatsoever
Where does the "he does not really read as many books" stuff come from?
He’s quoted as saying that RTÉ is now “in his rear view mirror” so if RTÉ haven’t closed the door on him, he’s certainly done so.
Sorry been off for a few days, this climate programme, regardless of your view of climate etc, should show you how bad RTÉ are.
I have never seen such a mess, they made a complete hames of the production and of the arguments, a bizarre programme to consider.
I think Q102 are the ones who do a Friday night eighties show, it’s brilliant.
Just on a human level, I wonder how he feels about moving to London. Imagine , his age and he’s never lived outside his patch.
It's London not Sydney. He is 50 not 80.
His kids are adults and his reported girlfriend has lived and worked in London, he is a multi millionaire who just got a new job at a pretty decent station.
On a human level he will be grand I'd say.
About three fiddy.
One thing I don't understand about these pictures is everyone points at the next guy! What's that all about " your the man " or something!
🤣🤣
I was just thinking about January, post Christmas blues and all that. And then the return of Ryan...🙄
I think with Tubridy it's a fake humility thing. Don't look at me, I'm not all that important, while thinking the opposite, imo.
This photo of Gaybo, PK and RT is a case in point (haha).
It's them saying "look at us cheeky, but harmless, jack the lads", instead of look at us shrewd, conniving 50+ successful businessmen that have long overstayed their welcome on TV and radio. Chris Evans was annoying in the 90s, Tubridy since the 00s, so they are celebrating their union of mutual mediocrity.
Either that or they are reminding each other to get their prostates checked, possibly by each other.
Correct and right…..like the lads in the block of apartments all gung ho when their properties are valued at €450k on paper..
Then some dude sells and best he can do is €250k… big intake of breath from all concerned…….Jaysus Conrad, where does that leave us!!!
And don’t even think of nicking that painting 🤣
It's fairly obvious from his dustcover depth when talking about books.
I said, under "what can RTE do you restore public trust?":
Stop Bakhurst making statements that the "talent" can work shorter hours to remain within the 250k pay cap, which is de facto an hourly wage increase
Ask Bakhurst to publicly ask Ryan Tubridy for our 150k back.
If I were a betting man I'd say that the money for the main radio show was the stumbling block. My guess is NK offered the syndicated radio show to Ireland for free as the sweetener to get the deal over the line. Tubridys profile as well as the potential cost savings from no longer needing a domestic show in that slot are substantial.
The Irish show is the key part as it allows Tubridy to keep his profile here which will facilitate a planned return to Ireland: either RTE or Bauer in a few years.
It's the insurance policy
