The three biggest problems with the id4 were software, power and range.
if VW want to sell the car to the mass market buyer, e.g 10% more range is huge on what is a midlife refresh car. The old s/w was absolute pants, and the screen is far bigger now too. This is quite a big refresh.
If it gets that price cut, it may also continue the current trend of the new car being better value than a used one (this will almost certainly be true of the model 3).
I haven't looked into the Tesla improvements, but for the ID.4, the efficiency is going from 16.7 to 16.3, so about 11km extra range. And the extra power can only be used when the charge is above 80 or 90%. The extra range is not, in my opinion, significant, and that extra power, with those restrictions, is just plain stupid😉
The extra power is likely just down to a software change. A battery with a higher voltage can supply power to the motor at a higher level than a battery with a lower voltage. As the state of charge reduces the battery voltage drops. The manufacturer can choose to soft limit this for a consistent experience, i.e. you can only have 200kW of power out of the battery at any time because that's all it's capable of at 5% charge, or they can choose to make more available when at a high state of charge. It's a big difference from an ICE vehicle where the quantity of fuel in the tank didn't affect how much power the engine could generate from burning a given litre of fuel.
I’m not VW’s biggest fan in fair see but I thought the improvements were decent.
Is it confirmed the power is only available above a certain SoC? So far that restriction has only applied to the GTX/Cupra eboost models, the new GTX/Tavascan are ~340hp with boost.
For those who are into pickups this is a decent REX
130kW generator is quite something.
BYD showroom at the Duomo in Milan.
Thats phenomenal. Unfortunately this backwater heckhole won't be allowed buy that new
Quick read of that article, it seems to just be a big plug-in series hybrid. Similar to Nissan's e-power, except the e-power is just a series hybrid (no plug) and the engine is constantly charging a smaller battery.
130kw is about 170ish hp. Not that big of a diesel? Engine. And a 92kWh battery. Most work would nearly be covered by the battery. Not usually a fan of hybrids, but they have their place.
Engine runs at its most efficient and don't need a huge one to get going, your batteries can handle that.
But that is the way I do see some of the more "industrial" machines. Diesel/methane/insert your fuel here : electric combination.
Have you been following Edison motors? And their new truck topsy? (Id recommend a look, really interesting)
(It's a built from scratch, diesel electric, off-road [logging] truck
I'd be very surprised if the majority of ID4 drivers weren't already VW owners with a large majority coming from the Tiguan.
With that said the power will have been a massive step up from their previous diesel tractors and the range on the 77 ID4 was perfectly adequate as well.
The New Tesla looks worse IMO with that common branding on its rear end.
Hopefully they have employed a few quality control staff to reject the poorly built ones.
No, they haven’t….
It doesnt need big horsepower as it will only be charging a battery. And it's a 3.6 V6 gas/petrol engine (pentastar), not diesel, petrol better suited to quick startup.
AUTONOMOUS, ELECTRIC YARD-TRUCKING
impressive stuff
“Currently, each remote teleoperator can control four trucks at any given time, and as autonomous technology is developed and enhanced, Fernride is on a mission to increase this ratio.
The electric trucks are also reducing environmental impact — the global supply chain accounts for more than 50% of annual greenhouse gas emissions. By using electric vehicles instead of diesel trucks, not only is the carbon footprint of every journey dramatically reduced, but also noise pollution and fuel costs too.”
I am not sure why some cars have 2 cables..
There's also a bench in the middle of the path.
Stupid AI art.
Pass through charging, only 1 car is plugged into the wall, the rest just connect to each other :D
Like fairy lights, one goes they all go😆
Because it’s fake 👀
Here's a debate. Best region to own an EV in whre you have a hime charger. My thoughts? Midlands. Shortest average trip. Even a drive to derry or cork can be done in a fully charged 62kv leaf.
One could argue that there isn't so much charging facilities rurally but again if you have a home charger and not that far to go, shouldn't be an issue. You can do a return trip to Dublin or Galway on a full battery
Moneypoint, to charge that leaf😏
Don't think it really matters, if you're going on a long trip there are literally thousands of chargers dotted around the country. Probably Dublin as everyone knows Dubs don't go past the M50 😂
"..there be monsters and triple head chargers."
Is there actual roads beyond the fiddy?
No, please stay within the safety of the m50 at all times.......
☺️
BMW
That’s actually sad. I’ve had a couple of them now.
Those are charging status indicators on the bonnet, a nod to the vents on the original car. But probably won’t make the final product.
Good article in Galway Adveriser, motoring correspondent Padraig Dean's retort to Ciaran Cuffes recent nonsense about electric SUV's(so called).
